“Believe it or not.” She breathed in deeply as she remembered. “He can be, and I fell for it. Hook, line, and sinker.”

“Does he know you saw him?”

“Yes, our eyes met, and he even called out for me, but I got in my car and got the hell out of there. Only text I bothered to read of any of the texts he sent was when I finally got home that night. He started off with,I don’t know what you think you saw.” She shook her head rolling her eyes. “I deleted it before finishing, and never read another of the many he sent for nearly a year after. He stopped around the time I purposely mentioned to Vannah that Cade and I were talking again and in more than just the friends way we always have. I had to. It was getting just too tempting to read Lex’s texts. I’m assuming she told him about it. It’s why even though Cade and I are more off than on these days, I told Vannah last time she asked that we’re still on.”

Her brother arched a brow again. “Why didn’t you just block Lex and how the hell did he end up your roommate?” Xochitl shrugged, ignoring the first question because it was too embarrassing to admit that even after all this time, she couldn’t bring herself to cut him offcompletely. Even though her obstinate ass refused to read them, each time she’d seen she had a text from him her heart did flip flops and embarrassingly it sort of made her day each time. But she explained why she was in this predicament now. “I didn’t think I’d still be feeling all this. But it’s why I have every intention of getting a new dorm as soon as fall semester is over. Already put in my request.”

“Feeling all this?” Izel eyed her suspiciously. “What about Cade?”

“Ugh.” She huffed feeling even stupider, but she might as well admit it now. Especially after feeling everything, she was after seeing Lex for the first time in two freaking years! “Before that night with Lex, I really thought it was just a matter of time before Cade and I got back together, and it’d be all good. That my not feeling all the craziness I’m supposed to feel for him, like in all those frenzied love stories I’ve read and seen in stupid chick flicks I’ve watched, was just because I was so used to him. I thought the crazy butterfly stage for me was long gone since Cade and I became each other sweethearts at such a young age. But nowbecauseof Lex I know I still have it in me to feel so much even after just one night. I haven’t been with Cade in months and going to hang with him this week, instead of going home, wasn’t even tempting.”

“So, you’re breaking up with him again?”

Xochitl winced. “I should. What’s the point of prolonging the inevitable? And it’s just not fair to keep stringing him along. I’ll never feel for him what I felt for Lex after just one night. Not that I’ll fall for his bullshit again, but at the very least Lex gave me hope that I still have it in me to feel all that with someone else. Just not with Cade.” Izel let out a long whistle shaking his head. “This is going to be interesting. You get all emotional after one reunion with this guy, and he openly admits to tearing through the dorm just now, like an uptight douche,up untilyou told him I was your brother. Suddenly, not only does he bring it down a major notch, but he apologizes?” Izel shook his head starting up the car. “Two years and you’re both so unbelievably obvious about hownotover either is about whatever connection you two clearly made that night. Good luck, Sis. Because getting through this semester is going to be a lot harder than you’re making it seem.” Xochitl gulped lifting her chin, as she looked out the window. “He’s here on a soccer scholarship and I have a full load of classes. You know how meticulous and obsessive I can be about turning in perfect assignments and on time so I can get full credit. On top ofhisclasses, he’ll be dealing with practices and games. Many of which will be away. So, he’ll be gone often. We’ll both stay really busy. How hard can this be?”

This time Izel laughed out loud. “Famous last words, Chichi. Famous last words.”

“I disagree,” Xochitl insisted defiantly. “Besides, you saw him and said it yourself. As much as I’d like to deny having noticed, he’s freakinghot. I haven’t asked Vannah a single thing about his personal life in just as long as I hadn’t seen him. What are the odds that he’s even still single or that he won’t get snatched right up as soon as the girls at ESU get a load of him? After two years he’s no doubt even smoother than he was then. Iwill notbe getting caught up in that nonsenseeveragain.”

“I know what I saw in there, Sis.” Izel said as he pressed the ignition button, and the car came to life. “Single or not, that must’ve been some night you two had because that guy is still feeling it for you. Just do me a favor. When we get back to your dorm and if the opportunity presents itself, just go along with whatever I say.”

“What do you mean?” Xochitl asked feeling a bit panicked because she knew her brother had a penchant for head games. “I don’t like playing games, Izel.”

“Who said anything about playing games?” Izel smirked as he pulled back into traffic. “You don’t owe this guy anything, and I have a point to prove. Trust me, will you?”
