Antony shook his head. “No, nooo. Running.”

“She spends her weekends going running and drinking.”

“Maybe once a month. She’s not into it as much as some of those people are. They get a little wild with it. She doesn’t drink a lot, though.”

Lesley crinkled her nose. “Do they do this at the same time? Like, booze in the Camelback?”

Antony barked out a laugh. “I wouldn’t doubt it with some of them. I went with her once. It was amusing, but they do this shit on the weekends, and no thanks.”

“Huh. Learn something new.” She stood and wiped her palms against her jeans. “Ready?”

Antony stepped up to her. “You okay?”

She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Silly, but I’m a little nervous about meeting your friends.”

He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. “I get it. I’d tell you not to be nervous, but that won’t work. If you’d rather, I can take your mind off it. We have a few minutes before we have to leave.” He nipped her earlobe.

Lesley squirmed against him. “Yes, take me to your friends with that freshly fucked look all over me.”

“Knowing them, they’ll have the same look,” he said, dryly. “Well, if I can’t talk you into a quick romp, we should probably get going.” Instead of letting her go, he pressed her against the wall and kissed her until she fisted her hands in his shirt and started tugging it out of his jeans.

“Oh, no,” he said, stepping away and looking at his watch. “Far too late for that now.”

She gave him a mock glare as she turned toward the door. He smacked her ass, and she yelped. “Is this how today’s gonna be, Ramos?”

He rubbed where he’d just slapped her and dipped his hand between her legs, rubbing on the seam of her jeans. “Oh, yes. Yes, it is.”

Lesley slapped his hands away and shoved him toward the door. “You behave. I don’t know these people like you do.”

Antony wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed his lips against her forehead. “They’re regular people, and they’re going to adore you, just like I do.”

“If you told me I was going to be spending my Saturday watching a bunch of old men dressed up in silly costumes relive their good old bad old days, I’d have laughed,” Lesley said, taking a bite out of her burger.

“That was the cheesiest thing I’ve witnessed in a long time.” Audrey said. “And that’s saying something, with Simon’s jokes.”

“Hey!”

Lesley laughed. She felt instantly at ease with Simon and Audrey, and seeing Ant interact with his friends made her happy. He’d told her about his initial problems with Audrey and how he’d worked on them, along with how much she’d changed since she turned down an assignment to stay in Arizona.

“They really are kinda bad,” Antony mock-whispered in her ear.

“I dunno. Have you heard Oli’s jokes?”

“Where do you think I’ve gotten some of them?” Simon tilted his head. “Have you and Oliver ever been stationed together before?”

Lesley shook her head. “No, this is the first time. We were both shocked when it happened. There’ve been some near misses before, though.”

“What do you mean?” Audrey asked.

“I left Ft. Gordon just a couple of weeks before he arrived there a long time ago. Same thing happened in Korea. We’ve bounced around a few of the same places, but never hit at the same time. It’s nice having him close for a change.”

“That sounds—”

A phone ringing interrupted them. Antony frowned and pulled his cell out of his pocket. The ringtone was one Lesley had never heard. He glanced at it, one eyebrow raised, and hit the screen button.

“Unknown number. Probably spam.” A second later, a scowl crossed his face. He turned the phone toward Lesley. “How the fuck did she get my number?” A message asking to talk was on the screen.
