Sniffling back the tears, I turn onto the highway and head for my friend Sarah’s house.

I’m not sure how much I’m willing to share with her, but I know one thing; Sarah is always down for a good time, and as for helping me drown my sorrows, she knows the top spots for tequila shots and dancing in this town.

“I’m not sure what you were thinking coming back here Marine, but you’re sadly mistaken if you think I’d take you back.”

She pouts at me, standing there all dolled up as she bats her eyes. I don’t even feel as much as a twitch in my pants at the sight of her. She appears desperate now that she’s here.

“What, your new boy toy found you’re a money grasping whore and was smart enough to quickly send you on your way?”

From the flash in her eyes, I must’ve hit the nail on the head. If only I had been as smart as him three years ago.

Marine needs out of this house. And now. Antonio mentioned Piper went out for a run but is expected to be back any minute.

“Fine, then I will just scalp you in the divorce and be sure to take everything my lawyer can pry from you,” she says snottily while grabbing her sweater off the floor to put back on.

“Do you remember the clause you signed in our prenup, Marine?” I ask her, grinning widely as I have a feeling she may not.

“If you’re about to tell me there’s an infidelity clause, then you’re simply lying. You were so blindly in love with me when we were married, you never thought I would do anything like this.”

I shake my head. “Let me assure you, that was nothing close to love. It was blind lust and grief; but you are correct, there wasn’t an infidelity clause.”

“Then what are you going on about?” She raises an eyebrow.

“My lawyer saw right through you, and when he couldn’t convince me of the infidelity clause, he did the next best thing. In the south of France, were you?”

She nods hesitantly. “Yes, and what does that matter?”

“You slept with Pierre there?”

“I don’t see that being any of your business.” She puts her nose in the air.

“The truth, Marine. Now.”

She rolls her eyes, “Fine. I slept with Pierre. Are you pleased now? Oh, and by the way, he was a much better lay than you will ever be.” She snips.

“And now, my dear, you are entitled to nothing. This conversation is being recorded right now, and a clause in the prenup states if you have sexual relations with a man aside from me outside this country, you leave the marriage with nothing.”

Her mouth drops open as I imagine she now realizes how screwed she is.

“You would make me a pauper again?” She screeches, her face burning red.

“Be careful, Marine; you might just split that new facelift.”

“You can’t do this to me! I gave you the best years of my life. Now what am I supposed to do?” She screams and stomps her foot.

“Considering how I’m not a heartless bastard, when you sign this settlement, you will take your car, fifty million, and get the fuck out of my life. I don’t want to see or hear from you again, and if I do, then I will be sure to have my lawyers sue for breach of contract.”

She folds her arms over her ample breasts and glares at me. “We are bound to run into each other. We run in the same social circles, you know that.”

“Then you better make sure that damn well doesn’t happen. Take the deal Marine, or walk away with nothing.”

I pull out the divorce contract and hold it out for her to collect. She snatches it from my hand. “I’ll have my lawyer look it over.”

I shrug. “If you walk out that door without signing, you get nothing.”
