“Branson, that is hardly fair,” she whines.

“It wasn’t fair you cheated on me and also tried thinking you could bruise yourself all up just to threaten my reputat

ion. Sign the damn document, Marine. It’s more than fair.”

She glares at me once more, then makes her way over to my desk to grab a pen. She flips through the document initialing, finally placing her signature at the end.

“There, I hope you’re happy,” she spits, turning on her heel and storming away from my office and out the front door.

Good riddance. I immediately grab the phone and ring through to my lawyer. It’s official; Marine signed the papers. I’m free as ever to build a life with my Piper— my little girl.

My heart sinks the second I step foot into the suite, finding Piper nowhere to be found along with her belongings.

Did I really fall for it again?

If Marine knew we slept together, she would’ve used it as a bargaining chip. There’s no way she would’ve left that out of the conversation earlier.

Pulling my cell from my pocket, I dial Piper’s number. One ring makes it through.

“What do you want? If you’re calling to tell me you and Mom are back together, there’s no need. I got an eyeful.”

I frown as I think back to my talk with Marine. Fuck. She must’ve been around when her mother practically threw herself at me, assuming I was all for it.

“You know how she is, Piper. She will use anything to get what she wants. I didn’t sleep with her, you have to believe that. I don’t want anyone but you, Piper. You’re mine. She signed the divorce contract; I’m free. Now, come home so we can talk about this, okay?”

The word home slips out so quickly, and it feels so right. This is her home, and if I have any say about it, that’s never going to change.

“What’s the point, Branson? I’m not interested in a wild affair.”

It’s clear she won’t believe me until I have her here, in my arms. I need to see her.

“Just come home, Piper. We will talk, and I’ll explain everything.”

“Okay, okay, I will. I’ll see you soon.”

I sigh in relief and end the call. It’s crazy to think I’ve had this girl in my life for a week, but yet, I’ve never been so certain that she’s the one.

I just need to prove it.

PIPER

I walk into the house with the hope that I'm not making the biggest mistake of my life. I can't believe I fell in love in a week. Branson is all I ever wanted; he's kind, intelligent, and handsome as hell. Yes, having a chef and living in a mansion is terrific and all, but if he lost it all tomorrow, I would still live with him in a trailer without hesitation; just be together and happy.

"Piper, come here." His voice is gravelly as he meets me at the door, wrapping me up in his arms.

"I wasn't sure if you would really come back. I thought I might have lost you."

The crack in his voice causes my eyes to move to his. Tears are forming, and I'm starting to believe this could be real.

"Did you mean what you said, Branson; do you really want this?"

He lays a soft kiss on my lips. "I meant every word, little girl. I know it may be too soon to say this, and it might leave you running for the hills, but I love you, Piper. Something changed inside me the day I laid eyes on you sitting in my kitchen. Now that you're mine, I'll never let you go."

Tears stream down my face as his words come out; I feel my heart pounding.
