Whatever I was expecting Bennett to say, it sure as hell wasn’t that. I expected a bite or some lecture on how I was irresponsible. . .but not that. I saw a whole new side of Bennett that I always knew was there, but never surfaced until now. He tore himself open and left himself bare to me in the most vulnerable way possible.

Could I really be his Eadem Anima? The ancient Vespen legend of a twin flame just seemed too rare to actually be true.Everything was happening so fast, I didn’t even know how to process all of the emotions I was feeling. All I could do was stare at the beautiful boy before me and feel myself fall for him completely—but, I needed time. I was still healing and trying to understand who I was. I didn’t know if I was ready for this.

I reached across the blanket and cupped his cheek in my hand. “I don’t blame you for anything, Bennett.” My voice was hoarse from crying. “I need you to let go of the guilt that you’re holding onto.”

I saw the apprehensiveness in his eyes and figured I needed to say what I knew he needed to hear. “I forgive you.” His hand covered mine and he closed eyes, as if he was relieved by that statement.

I really did forgive him. I didn’t blame him for the poison or what Saeva did to me, but I was holding onto the past and I needed to let that go now. We all made mistakes, stars know I made thousands, and I could understand why he did what he did, even if I didn’t always agree with it.

“Thank you, Rhia,” he whispered.

“But—”

His eyes flashed open to meet mine, a hint of fear in them, as if I would take back what I said.

“But, I need time. I’m still trying to heal. I need to process everything, I’m sorry.”

“Shhh, it’s okay,” he said, pulling the back of my hand to his lips and kissing it softly. “I would wait a lifetime for you.”

He pulled me to him and I straddled his waist, sitting in his lap as I embraced him like a little bear. I dropped my head to his shoulder and breathed in the intoxicating scent of vanilla and paper from old books in the library. He stroked his fingers down my back and held me in the most gentle yet possessive way possible.

I needed this more than I could say, I needed him.Whatever fate was written for us in the stars, I could only hope that ours was written together.
