His balance failed him, and he stumbled backward. A mental clock began to tick in my head, urging me to act quickly, so I climbed onto the bed. Seeing the door just within my reach and with Ethan behind me, I ran.

When I was near the middle of the bed, I felt a large hand wrap around my right ankle. He drew me back with great strength, and I bounced onto the bed.

My mind was caught up in an escape frenzy, and I immediately turned onto my back, raising my left leg to kick his grip off, but he grabbed my leg in his other hand and pulled my entire body towards him. I tried grabbing and scratching at the bedsheet, but it didn't keep Ethan away from me.

"Where do you think you are running to?" he asked me as he pulled me under himself again.

I was on the bed, my hands pinned to the bed, and his body wedged between my legs, making any attempt at movement futile. His grin indicated that he had me exactly where he wanted me, trapped.

He was all that I could see.

"You are still feisty. I was afraid you'd lost your spirit," he remarked, still standing between my legs. "I'm glad you didn't."

It was strange to be helpless under himand at his mercy. I'd never given any man that much power over my body, but Ethan just accepted it as if it had always been his.

He clasped my hands above my head and held them together in one hand, freeing his other hand for whatever he seemed to have in mind for me.

Ethan pressed his face against mine, andfor a momentI forgot how to breathe.

"You need to let me go—now," I attempted to threaten him. In any other case, I would have laughed at how ridiculous I must have appeared for daring to challenge a man like him.

"Or what?" he asked me with a raised brow, making him appear savage and even hotter.

"People will notice that I'm missing and will come looking for me. They'll look for me, and the cops will follow suit," I stated. He scoffed just as an electric shock ripped through my body.

My body buzzed, but still, I was pinned down under him.

It wasn't electricity. It was my nerves and sensitive flesh that betrayed me when Ethan started nibbling on my neck.

I hadn't realizedI had closed my eyes until I opened them andsaw his wickedly handsome face above me. No, no, no! I fought against his strength, embarrassed that he had elicited such a reaction from me. I was angry at myself for feeling a strange sensation between my legs as a result of what he was doing.

"I have the cops in my pocket. As for the ones who aren't, I'm sure your uncle would keep them off my back in order to keep you alive," hetold me, snuffing out my hopes and threats. "Andyou—"

I tried to look at him and follow the movement of his head so I could be ready for whatever trick he had planned next. Instead, I found myself brushing up against him. His whiskers tickled my cheek before I felt his warm breath in my ear.

"Do you know what I want to do to you, Vanessa?" he asked, his raspy voice slipping through my ears and down to my pounding heart.

I don't know. I don't want to know, I thought but could not say.

"If you comply, maybe I'll spare your best friendand uncle's lives," he said with a solemnity in his voice thatscared me. "If you don't—well,Vanessa, that's your choice. What is it going to be then?"
