Well, that’s not exactly true. Food was becoming more scarce before the dead-heads came, but killing off ninety-nine percent of the population made it abundant.

Gage: Does that mean you’re reconsidering our negotiations?

Remi:I still need to get outside of the city, so no. I think I heard someone, though. I was looking out a window. Some of the…dead were wandering aimlessly. Someone was laughing, but I don’t know where they were.

Gage: There are a lot of sick people in the world, and not all of them are as upfront about it as I am. The monster you know will always be safer than the monster you don’t.

Remi:If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were worried about losing me. Is my value greater than expected?

Gage: There will always be other women, but safety is hard to find. So you tell me.

Remi:Can you just give me something comforting about you? Maybe something that’s not a red flag?

I have to hand it to her, she makes me laugh.

Remi:What did you do before all this?

Gage: I fixed problems.

Remi:Again with the red flags.

Gage: How about this, Blacklist was my favorite show.

Remi:I liked Supernatural.

Gage: Of course you would. You’ve probably read all of Twilight, too.

Remi:Guilty.

Gage: What were you going to study in college?

Remi:World Politics

Gage: I feel like the Rager Apocalypse saved you from a mundane life of double-speaking and apologizing for a history you had no part in.

Remi:Will you be kind?

Interesting choice of words.

Gage: I already told you I won’t physically harm you.

Remi:That could still be a stretch from kindness.

Gage: I’ll be dutiful, which is better than kind.

Remi:What the fuck is that supposed to mean?

Gage: If you’re in danger, I’ll protect you. If you’re hungry, I’ll feed you. I’ll shelter you. I’ll clothe you…sometimes. I’ll decide if you need clothes.

Remi:I’ll ignore that.

Gage: While you can.

Remi: So, this group you’re in, the women are basically pets?

My lips curl into a smirk.

Gage: We all have our roles, and mine will be to provide.
