Thirty-Three

Two months later…

I walked through a rip in space and into the shadowed forest beyond. The delicate boughs of the evergreen trees still dripped with rain, their familiar scent reminding me of our new home. Reminding me of him.

Tilting my head, I listened for all the hopes and dreams flooding into the dreamscape tonight, weeding through the voices, looking for one.

“It looks like you’re tallying the whispers of men.”

“Not of men. Only you.”

Roarke slid up beside me, taking my hand in his. “The shimmer of the moon tonight reminds me of your eyes.” He winked.

I smiled, fully accepting my new role. “But the stars I love and the steps we take are only but a guise,” I teased back.

Shooting stars filled the sky, streaking silver against the swirling black, purple, pink, and blue. The Weaver magic was limitless and now fully a part of me. Marked by each other and our blended magic, I could utilize it the same as Roarke, fully able to do anything I wanted without inflicting nightmares like before. Blessed by the gods, there was no longer light and dark or a balance to maintain. We were only one. The role of the Queen of Nightmares had been destroyed along with Isabelle. Now equals, Roarke and I could live our life together—in the real world and in the dreamscape.

He held out my matching cloak and smiled, silver flames dancing in his eyes. “Are you ready to go home?”

I nodded, thinking back to the moment he’d revealed his island to me in the real world.

Surrounded by evergreens and aspens, the tiny cabin looked exactly as it had in the dreamscape. Located on the Loch, this hidden gem was truly secluded on an island buried deep in a mountain pass about three hours outside Estes Park, Colorado. I’d burst into tears when he’d first brought me here. Its beauty and the sense of peace I felt was just as real as it had been in my dreams.

Stepping inside, I bent down and opened my arms, gathering Jenks to my chest as he purred in contentment. “The mountain air seems to suit him.”

Roarke kissed my cheek and gave Jenks a scratch behind his ears. “Do you miss it?” he asked, taking a seat on the couch.

“Miss what?”

“Your cottage? Your woods? Your ancestral home? I know it was hard for you to leave your land and your gardens behind.”

I joined him on the couch, folding my legs beneath me. “Yes and no. After learning how close Keelyn and my mother were, it felt right to give it to her. I know she’ll take good care of it, and I think it’s the perfect spot for her and her coven to continue their work.”

I snuggled against him, content in my choice. Staring into the flames of the fire, I lost myself in the love we shared and the life we’d built.

Placing a hand on my pregnant belly, Roarke whispered in my ear, “I love you, wife. And you’ll forever be my queen.”

The End
