I cannot get in the middle of whatever they’ve got going on.

Enzo looks disappointed and surprised, but he doesn’t argue or demand an explanation. ”All right. Rain check then. Need directions?"

I grimace. “That would be great."

Enzo takes the map and explains the best way to get to the grocery store between here and the omega housing.

I can feel his eyes burning into my back as I hurry away from him like a coward with my tail between my legs.

This fucking pack is apparently trying to drive me crazy. What the hell is going on with this place and these damn assholes?

And why do they smell so fucking good?

BACK IN MY ROOMS, I crawl into my nest with my computer and papers, trying to focus on work instead of the temptations outside. I have several essays due to the Omegas For Freedom organization for the newest bill they're trying to get passed in Congress. Not that I have much hope anything will happen, but it's the only way I know how to fight for what I believe in. With words and facts and statistics. And the OFF has been incredibly happy with my work, paying me handsomely for my time too.

While my papers and essays have yet to bring any government officials over to our side, who are all alphas, they have brought more and more omegas and even betas together, sharing their stories and their pain and their dreams.

My words will be the ones spoken at the rally they're planning when we march on the capitol and demand changes. A march that may well end in our deaths.

I may keep my words anonymous for my own safety, but I'll still be there at that rally, arm in arm with my omega brothers and sisters. It's long past time for us to have equal rights, the right to control our own lives and futures and bodies.

My fingers fly across the keyboard of my computer, thoughts of sexy males melting away as my rage rises. This is what matters. The fight. The research.

No alpha would let me keep doing this work. No pack would accept me if they knew what I do in secret.

I lose myself in the work for so long, when the knock comes on the door I almost toss my computer across the room in fright. I blink in confusion in the dim light. When did it get so dark?

The knock sounds again, a little more insistent this time. With a groan, I haul my stiff body out of my nest and shuffle to the door, scowling as I open it.

Rose scowls right back. "You missed breakfast."

I blink in confusion. “Breakfast?"

Her face clears. “Oh. Again?"

I rub at my face. “What?"

She huffs and pushes her way into my rooms. “Did you sleep at all? It's morning, dumbass."

"What? No." I search for my phone to check the date and time.

It can’t be.

Rose grabs my phone from out of a cereal box on the floor and hands it to me. “Yes. It's the next day. You look like shit."

I stare down at my phone, trying to remember when I stuck it in the cereal box. Or why. “Well. Fuck."

Rose shakes her head and sighs. “Dude, you can't keep doing this. It's not healthy."

"There are actually studies that show—-"

She cuts me off with a glare. “Nope. I've only had one cup of coffee. I love your facts, but it's too early for them. And I know damn well that there are no studies that show no sleep is anything but awful for you."

"Well, of course not.”

She rolls her eyes. “Then shut it. Come on. Let's get food in you while I pound back another three coffees and then you need to go to sleep. Only tea for you."
