I don’t look away from her. “She couldn't get away from me fast enough once she realized we're in the same pack. I'm worried it freaked her out."

"I don't think whatever that is has anything to do with us."

I finally look back at my omega. “Why?"

Ollie glances over at her, an affectionate look on his face. ”She loses herself in her work. And she didn't smell sad or upset. She just smelled tired. Based on what I saw of her yesterday, she has a tendency to lose herself in books and her work. I'm guessing something like that happened last night."

"I hope Grey doesn't find out about that. He'll flip."

Ollie rolls his eyes. "Maybe that's what he needs so he'll actually admit he's interested."

I turn my arm still in his grip until our hands are threaded together. "He's not the only one."

Ollie flushes, but shrugs. “No, he's not."

"She really is obsessed with books, huh? A good fit with you,” I tease.

Ollie rolls his eyes again. “A good fit with all of us. Reading is what brought the rest of us together."

I smile. “That it did. Maybe that'll work this time too."

Ollie sobers. “Not if she and Grey have anything to say about it."

"We have twelve weeks. A lot could happen in that time. Especially with the two of you in the library every day.” I keep sneaking glances over at her and her friend.

Aurora very carefully never looks our way.

Ollie sighs. “She won't necessarily be there every day."

"Nope, because I plan to steal her away and show her the library at the manor."

He laughs. “She'll enjoy that. The books there may be better than what we have at the library."

"Do you know what she's working on?" I ask.

"Not really. I just know she's searching for information on anthropology and biology. And she has a lot of opinions about omega rights."

My smile widens. “Sounds familiar."

She sounds perfect.

She certainly smells perfect.

"Yeah. She's a good fit."

I try to remind myself she just arrived two days ago, and we've all barely interacted with her. This is all a bit premature. Especially for me. I'm not one to jump into things. It took my omega here years to convince me to take a chance on him and the pack. I'm still not ready for any kind of permanent bond. The last thing I should probably be doing is panting after an omega who clearly doesn't want a pack when I'm dragging my heels with my own.

Ollie swats me. “Don't get lost in your head with guilt. There is no rush with our pack. And we just met Aurora, who knows what will happen."

"I know. I love you, you know that?" I lean across the table and brush a kiss across his lips.

"I know. We're good. We'll always be good."

Warmth spills through my chest as my omega grins at me. Not once has he ever made me feel like his alpha is more important than I am to him. It's my own bullshit from growing up a beta, the second best in a world of leading alphas and treasured or coveted omegas. I'd certainly been a disappointment to my parents and their pack of nothing but alphas. Even my omega father had been disappointed.

No one in my pack ever makes me feel like a disappointment, yet I somehow can't quite make the plunge to making our pack permanent. Though with this tempting omega drawing all of us in, maybe that was a good thing.

You can add members to a bonded pack, but it's not a very smooth transition. And often the one who comes into an already bonded pack never quite fits, always a little on the edges. It's why they weren't giving Ollie any shit about the omega program since we claimed we were still building their pack.
