Chapter Twenty

I'M STILL BROILING by the time we're back home. I hadn't wanted to leave Aurora, but she'd made it clear she wanted to be alone after she recapped everything for us.

That fucking organization. They're utterly vile with their bullshit.

We spent the entire time she was gone looking through shit online and most of what we saw was equally vile. Mostly alphas running their big mouths, but the occasional omega puts in their two cents as well, trying to prove they're good omegas who know their place. There are always some who don't understand that the fight would help them too, even if they're happy with their lives subservient to alphas. It's all about choices. We fight for their right to choose as much as our own.

And apparently Aurora has been fighting harder than all of us.

Something I certainly hadn't guessed when we met. She's so quiet and is always trying to hide or fade into the background. Though talking about omega rights certainly gets her riled up. It's one thing that gets her to light up and talk.

There was no sign of that light when she returned. There was only darkness in her eyes, hopelessness, despair. The organization certainly got to her.

Like they get to most of us.

Without Callan and Grey’s mother sticking her neck out, I'd be trapped in that damn program too, separated from my pack, my home, my job.

Aurora doesn't have that help or luxury.

"Hey. You okay?" Enzo rubs my back, cuddling closer to me on the couch.

I shake my head. “Nope. I'm pissed."

"What do you think she's going to do?" Grey asks.

“I don't know. She was suspiciously quiet about it, but I highly doubt she'll roll over and accept an alpha or a pack just because they demand it."

"But did you scent how upset and scared she smelled when she told us she'd be sent home?" Grey’s expression is strained, his hands curled into fists.

He desperately wants to fix this for her, but he can’t.

Enzo grimaces. “Yeah. I don't think she's safe there."

"We could..." I trail off.

Grey leans forward, staring at me expectantly. ”What?"

I blow out a breath, watching both of my lovers carefully. “We could offer her a place in our pack. We could stay strictly platonic, so it would give her a measure of safety. I mean, it's not unprecedented, even for us."
