My eyes widen and I splutter on my drink. "What?"

"I don't mind sharing and it's a bit ridiculously large."

I can't believe he's offering this. It's way too fucking much. A nest is a sacred place to an omega, something I believe is written into our genetic code, not a part of our culture. Even the shittiest alpha will hesitate before entering an omega's nest without an invitation. Why the hell would Oliver invite me into his? Especially another omega.

"That's really kind of you, but I think I'll make do. I've gotten rather used to the blanket forts over my time in the program."

Oliver looks a little disappointed, but nods in understanding. ”Fair enough."

Why are these guys like this?

Rose shoots me an impressed look, but I find myself suspicious instead of charmed. I just have to lie low here for a few days, stay out of my mother's way. Once she's headed back home, I can return to the omega housing, where I’m not constantly tempted by the scents and sweetness of this pack.

I'm already having second thoughts about this whole thing.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

AT LEAST IT'S NOT ME fucking things up this time around. It's Oliver.

Aurora is skittish and suspicious and we keep coming on way too strong. She's going to run and never look back if we don't chill.

But with her here in our home, her honeysuckle scent wafting about, it's hard to remain calm when all we want to do is hustle her upstairs and bind her to us. The next few days or weeks are going to be an excellent lesson in control and restraint.

She needs friends more than she needs romantic partners right now though, and we need to keep that in mind. She's in a vulnerable spot and needs a safe place to get her bearings. The last thing we should do is take advantage of her situation, purposefully or not.

I look forward to meeting her mother, and making a few things clear. I'm not sure what to expect on her arrival, but from the comments Aurora and Rose made the night before, she's a cruel alpha who is probably a large part of why Aurora is so skittish with the designation.

I'm sure the dozens of pricks like Joe the night before only cemented her feelings. Not all alphas are shitty bastards, but too many are. And it's not like those of us who try to be more than our designation have a sign on our foreheads proclaiming us safe.

"It's nice you were able to come and visit during all these... difficulties,” I say to Trix, interested in this beta who dropped everything to come back out here yet again after taking Aurora to the rally.

Trix shrugs as she slices into her steak. ”Anything for Rory. We grew close when she was sent to my city on her last stop of the program."
