GROWLS FILL THE AIR as the guys form a protective circle around me.

My mother is far from cowed. “I suggest you move so I can speak to my daughter. If I lodge a complaint against your pack, you can kiss any courting or bonding goodbye."

My father stands a few feet behind her, his head low, probably not allowed to fucking look up.

The alphahole she wants to give me to stands next to her, arms crossed, a cruel smirk on his face, that dumbass gray mustache making him look like a creep.

Enzo scoffs. “Those take forever to get through the red tape. Good luck moving forward with that before your daughter is covered in our teeth marks.”

I glare at her, fury helping to make me brave. “Isn't this what you wanted, Mother? Me, bonded to a pack where I'll take my rightful place as a proper omega?"

Mother’s face twists. ”Not a pack like this. Not one with an omega already."

Oliver steps in front of all of us, leaning towards her with disgust curling his lips. “Your disdain for omegas is clear. You fight to control what you fear or don't understand. Don't worry about Aurora. Soon, she'll never be your responsibility again."

"And you're fools if you take her on. Only astrong alpha can handle my daughter and that certainly isn't either of you. It's clear you give your own omega way too much leeway, spoiling him rotten. Omegas need a firm hand to guide them. Right, omega?" She looks back at my father.

His shoulders slump even lower. “Yes, alpha."

My stomach revolts and I barely keep my dinner down.

My father has gotten even worse since I've been gone. I haven't seen him in over a year, not since I started the program. We've exchanged emails and secret phone calls, but even those were rare. He looks like he's wasting away.

I need to get him away from her soon before she kills him.

My mother preens. “See? Don't you just crave such perfect obedience? Or are you too weak to handle it?"

Callan clears his throat, and wraps his arm around my waist. “It was incredibly unpleasant to meet you, but it's time for us to return home where Aurora is staying with us. Have the day you deserve."

I don't bother acknowledging her as the pack leads me away. My father still won't look at me.

The man who used to swing me into his strong arms and carry me around, tickling me until I shrieked. The man who used to protect me when my mother went on one of her rampages. The man who used to sing me to sleep when I had nightmares.

She's broken him. Maybe without me there, he just gave up.

Oliver huddles close on my other side. “Come on, love. Let's go home."

I'm silent the entire walk back, lost in memories and horrors. The pack stays quiet too, and by the time we get back, I've convinced myself they're regretting their decision to help me now that they've met my family.

But once we're inside, away from any prying eyes, they all converge on me, trapping me in the center of a group hug. I stiffen at first, a thread of panic slithering through my stomach, but then I sink into it, allowing their touches and their scents to comfort me.

"How about we introduce you to our favorite anime, and we just relax the rest of the night,” Grey suggests. “You're safe here, and we will order all kinds of delicious food for us to indulge in all night."

"Yeah. That sounds nice." I'd planned to go sulk in my room, but what's the use in that?

And I don't think they'll let me anyway.

"Want me to go grab some of your blankets from your nest?” Oliver asks. “We can even set up in the library if you want."

I shake my head. “The living room is fine. And I'll get the blankets. I want to change into comfier clothes anyway."

"I'll order the food,” Grey says. “We still have chips and salsa from the restaurant too."

Enzo hands me a heavy paper bag. “Oh, and here are your books if you want to take them to your room."
