Chapter Eleven

Liam

I can’t believe I am on this plane sitting next to Silver. On our way to Hawaii to Ray’s wedding. I must be dreaming. Who knew a couple of glasses of margaritas could get me in the door so fast? If I had known, I’d have taken Silver out for Mexican a long time ago. I’d never seen her scarf down so many tacos. But then again, as long as I’d known Silver, I’d never seen her that tipsy.

Silver was someone who liked to remain in control. So, she’d never been much of a drinker. It had taken every fiber of my strength to not so much as kiss her. But I was a gentleman. And a protector of women. I did not take drunk women to bed.

Sure, the next day she’d tried to get out of it. She tried to explain that Ray was having a very small, private wedding due to her fiancé being a famous rocker. But I had another ace up my sleeve. Ray had sent me an invitation to the wedding. And not hell or high water was going to keep me from going. And going I was, as Silver’s plus one. Once and for all, I was going to put a stop to this nonsense that we were not, nor could we ever be, a couple. And Ray’s wedding in Hawaii was the perfect place.

“We’re almost there,” I said, pointing out the window at the vivid blue waters below as we descended to the airport. An unladylike snort was Silver’s reply. Guess she was still angry. I chuckled. That was going to change very, very soon.

“What’s so funny?”

“You are,” I said. “We are about to land in Hawaii, a place you’ve wanted to visit as long as I’ve known you. And you are sitting there pouting like a three-year-old, instead of enjoying the trip.”

“I don’t appreciate you blackmailing me into coming as my date,” she huffed.

“Blackmail? Silver, you wound me. The facts are you invited me to be your date. In fact, you nearly begged me so-”

“Begged you? Why, you lying little rat-head! I did no such thing!” Liam’s laugh was grating. “You’re impossible,” I muttered.

“It’s your best friend’s wedding. You better improve your mood, for Ray’s sake.”

I mocked him, mouthing his words back to him. But I had to admit, he was right. I had no one to blame but myself for his presence next to me. And I certainly didn’t want to be a drag on Ray’s happiest day of her life.

“Fine. But I’m warning you, no shenanigans. And you better have your own room. You won’t be staying with me.”

“Like hell,” I muttered under my breath.

“What?”

An announcement came over the speakers that we’d be hitting the ground within three minutes. I pointed up, indicting we had to listen. By the time we disembarked from the airplane, Silver’s mood had lightened. Once we arrived at the hotel, she was so excited to see her friend Ray again that she didn’t notice that I’d checked in for the both of us.

In only one room.

The hotel in Maui was amazing. It was an exclusive hidden gem, secluded and far away from the commercial hotels, a luxurious paradise that would inspire even the least romantic person in the world. I’d have to be extra careful with Liam here. The beautiful, private beach, the glorious gardens and the romantic interior of the hotel could stir anyone’s heart to love.

But I was so happy for Ray and Tyler that I hadn’t thought much about anything but their special day once I’d arrived. Until it was time for me to change for dinner. I tracked Liam down at the pool, where he was sunning his sinfully gorgeous body in a pair of swim trunks. And nothing else. The man should be ashamed of himself for such a brazen display of sexiness.

I watched him from beneath my sun glasses, taking in every inch of that bare muscular chest, those rock-hard abs and that face, which was far too perfect to belong to someone so devious. He looked up, catching me red-handed. I swear that man had radar anytime I was within fifty feet of him. I strolled across the patio, trying to wipe the miffed look off my face. Nothing irritated me more than letting Liam know how he got under my skin.

“Hey,” I said as I sat in the chair next to where he lounged. “I need the key to my room. I need to get ready for the rehearsal dinner tonight. You probably should, too. We’re meeting at the west beach entrance to rehearse, then to the Mai Tai Lounge for dinner.”

“Oh, sure thing,” Liam said.

He opened his wallet and pulled out a card key and handed it to me. “I’ll go up in a few minutes,” he said. “Room 108.”

I shrugged happily. “Okay. I’ll call you when I’m ready and we can go together.”

The room was huge, sumptuously romantic and filled with fragrant Hawaiian flowers. It had a beautiful ocean view that went on for miles. It was almost a shame to be staying here alone. Almost. Liam was far too dangerous to even consider letting him so much as even walk past my hotel room. Nope. He was not going to so much as knock on my door.

For an instant, I wondered if I should have let him check in for me. Now he knew my room number. But the hotel was small and Tyler had rented the entire hotel out for the wedding, so it would be hard to hide from Liam here. I trusted he’d be on his best behavior for the sake of Ray and Tyler. He was good that way.

I peeked into the bathroom, which was the size of my bedroom back in Vegas. There was a large open shower, big enough to fit at least two people and a bench that I’m sure must have seen some action in the past. A gorgeous tub for two was filled with water, while fragrant flower petals floated on the water’s top. Ray and Tyler had impeccable taste. I couldn’t imagine a better, more romantic place to get married to your soul mate.
