“I don’t know how I can help with your father,” he stated.

Rhonda said, “I was thinking that if Mr. Marzoni and Annabella’s mother and I got together and talked to her father, we might be able to convince him that Colton is a good guy.”

Jack’s tone sounded doubtful. “I can’t see that happening. Mr. Marzoni is not really up for traveling, and with Colton gone, I don’t know if I could get him there by myself.”

“What do you mean - Colton is gone? Where did he go?” I asked.

“I don’t know. He met with Brice Henderson and Bennett Stone to discuss his father. They basically told me to leave. After the meeting, Colton came to my hotel room and said he wouldn’t be returning home with me.”

“Where is he?” I pressed, panic rising in my chest.

“I don’t know. He wouldn’t tell me. But I know wherever he is, there’s a huge time difference.”

“Tabiq,” Rhonda said.

“What’s Tabiq?” I asked.

“That’s where he is. It’s where our mother was from. He must have gone there in search of answers,” she said.

“So he’s not even in the country,” I sighed.

“No. But I have the feeling he won’t be gone for long,” Jack said.

“How do you know?” I asked.

“Because he was jealous as hell when he found out you and I had dinner the other night. He’s not going to risk losing you. I’m not a threat, but I made sure he understood that if he didn’t act, you might not be sitting home waiting for him forever,” he said.

“I thought you said you weren’t going to tell him,” I reminded him.

“Well, I changed my mind. He needed to hear it.”

And I needed to be the one to tell him.

“I hope you didn’t just add fuel to the fire and now he really doesn’t want to ever come back here,” I said.

“No. Trust me. You’ll be seeing him before you know it. And as far as your father is concerned, tell him how you feel about Colton. Draw a line in the sand. It’s the only way you’re going to know how far he’s willing to go to keep the two of you apart,” Jack said.

“And what if he makes me choose between them?”

“He’s your father. He’s not going to do that.”

I sure hope not.

We ended the call and I looked at Rhonda. “What do you think? Should I go home and talk to my dad like Jack suggested?”

Rhonda nodded. “I know it’s not going to be easy, but if you want a life with Colton, you might have to fight for him. After hearing what Jack said, it sounds like Colton is going to need your love and support more than you know.”

Colton needs me?

That’s all I needed to hear. I got up and said, “Thanks for letting me come over and bounce this off you. I’ll let you know how it goes.”

Rhonda hugged me again and said, “More importantly, let Colton know.”

I nodded and headed to my car. Next stop: my parents’ house.

When I arrived, Mom was sitting on the porch. “Hi, where’s Dad?” I asked.

“He should be home shortly. There was a call he needed to handle before leaving work. What brings you by?” she asked.
