Grabbing two test boxes that say digital and ninety-nine percent accurate, I grab some vitamins too and head toward the checkout. The lady doesn’t comment which I’m grateful for. I slip the tests and vitamins into my bag and make my way back to Sergio.

I smile and tap my bag when he checks I got everything I needed.

As soon as I get home, I go straight into my bathroom, fumbling with the test boxes. I open all four, two from each box.

Might as well quadruple check.

The box says I need to wait three minutes.

After peeing on all four tests, I set the timer on my phone. I head into my bedroom to pace until the alarm goes off.

My phone chimes after the longest three minutes of my life.

I lift the first test and drop it instantly. I lean down to pick it up and stare at the little screen.

Pregnant 3+

3+what?

Grabbing the other three, they all read the same.

Ripping open the instructions, I find the little table that explains the result.

3+indicates five plus weeks pregnant.

Fuck! I’m pregnant.

I sink to the ground in my bathroom and cry, I crawl over to the toilet and empty my stomach of the small coffee Sergio brought me on our way home.

What am I going to do? I need to leave, but where do I go?

Picking myself up off the floor, I pull my carry case from the closet and sob as I fill it with my bits I need for the weekend. I need to get to Bea. She’ll know what to do.

Pulling out my phone, I send a text to Sergio.

Me:Meet me at your car in 5mins!

I make sure to stuff the tests into my bag along with the boxes. No way do I want May to find them. As much as she loves me, I know she’ll have to tell my momma and papa.

I carry my bag down the stairs. I know Mom and Mia are out picking a dress for tomorrow night for Mia. My little sister is a diva and is yet to settle on a dress. You’d think she was in her twenties, not merely fifteen.

Sergio is leaning against his bonnet with his arms crossed, a frown marring his usually soft features. His frown flicks to worry as he looks at my face.

“Cam, what’s wrong?” He moves toward me and puts both hands on my shoulders.

“I need you to take me to New York, and I need you not to tell anyone.” I sob as I fall into his chest.

“Fuck, Cam, what’s going on?” His arms embrace me.

I know he could get in so much trouble if anyone caught this hug.

“I… I need you to take me to Bea and Leo’s penthouse. I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t desperate. I was going to just take myself, but I didn’t want to get you in trouble.” I hiccup.

“I need to know why I’m risking my job, hell, probably my life, to take you to New York?” He holds me at arm’s length.

Looking up at him, I whimper as more tears fall. “I’m pregnant.” I choke out.

His hands become like vices, and I wince at his tight hold on me.
