CHAPTER EIGHT

ALESSANDRO

“Well, looks like the cat’s out of the bag.” I look over to Leo as I place my phone on my dining room table.

“Angelo? That’s progressed fast.” The fucker smirks at me.

“If I’m not mistaken, you had a pet name for Beatrice.” I grunt and continue to search through my laptop.

“I married her, Alessandro, that’s completely different.” Leo shrugs as he looks at his phone.

“Nic and Ant are on their way, apparently. Although Dante has forbade Nic from killing me, according to Cam.” I tilt my head trying to make sense of the conversation. “Are you aware of a reason that Nic cannot father children? Cam said something strange about our child being the future heir of Boston.”

“Fuck, this matter was meant to be resolved quickly and quietly,” Leo grunts.

“What matter?”

“You’re not asking the right questions. Maybe you should ask why Ant is coming with Nic?” Leo tilts his head, like I should understand his riddles.

“Just fucking tell me already.” I frown at him.

“You don’t seem to be surprised that Baltimore would risk an open war for an issue between two cities?”

“They’re best friends, of course Ant would have Nic’s back. It’s no different from me and you. I would go to war for you.” And I would.

“And I for you. But Ant does not come as Nic’s brother.” Leo shakes his head as he looks at his phone again.

“What does that fucking mean?” I stand up to grab a drink. It’s early but needs must. I should probably keep my head clear, though.

“They’re fucking, Alessandro. As in neither will take a wife because they’re together. Dante brought it to my attention a few years ago. Luigi is already training Rocco to become underboss.” Fuck this is a mess. “Nic is the only option Dante has, so from what I can work out, Ant is willing to work under Nic. Nic will have to take a wife, there is no other option. He needs an heir. I can only imagine this pregnancy is another issue Dante could do without.”

Leo nods when I hold an empty glass up.

“How has it been left?” he asks when I pass him his drink. “I’m guessing that he has allowed Carmella to call you, he’s not asking for your life?”

“He wants me and my father in Boston tomorrow.” I haven’t even told my mother and father yet. “After Nic and Ant leave, I need to be in Philadelphia, tonight.”

Pulling up my pilot’s number, I send him a text to ready my jet. It helps that my family own the biggest logistics company on the east coast. All of us De Luca children have our own jets. Even my younger sisters, Gemma and Lia. They were given as gifts from our latenonno.

“You know what you will need to do? You know Dante has every right to demand your life. Even I don’t have pull on this, Alessandro. Of course, I won’t allow it. But, fuck, the mess you two have made.” Leo shakes his head. “My father won’t lose Boston over this, Alessandro.”

“It’s fine, I’ll sort it. I know what I need to do.” Can’t say it will be too much of a hardship.

“You do?”

“I’ll speak to my father tonight. He’s been looking for a match for me. Carmella is highborn. He’ll be happy with us as a match.” I grin at him.

“But will she? She’s a spitfire if ever I’ve known one. Beatrice loves the girl for some reason. I find her far too fucking outspoken. Is that really who you want as your wife?”

“Just how I like my women. I know the submissive wife does it for you. I want a wife with fire, and trust me, she’s submissive where it counts.” I smirk at him.

“The fact you know that should scream bad news.”

“Leo, she’s carrying my fucking baby. I couldn’t give a fuck that she’s not a virgin on our wedding night.” Grinning, I lift my scotch to my lips.

“Yeah, because you sampled the fucking goods before making a bid.” He shakes his head. “Now, let’s get back to work before Nic and Ant arrive.”

We spend the next two hours going through everything we have to do with Juan Hernandez. We haven’t had any more leads since we killed Sandro and Roberto. Like the snake he is, he’s slipped back under his rock. But he’s not to be underestimated. He’s dangerous and not afraid to attack our women, we know that now.
