“It’s business, amore, I don’t discuss all of our dealings with you.” His voice is soft but it also holds command. Bea huffs but says no more.

“Go, go and find her and your child, Alessandro.” He flinches at me using his full name.

He looks to Leo, and they seem to have a conversation without words. Leo grabs hold of Bea and leads her out of the room.

Al drops to his knees in front of me, lifting my cape over my head. “I didn’t plan this, angelo, I can’t apologize enough.” He shakes his head.

“You’re wasting time, Alessandro. This conversation can wait. Your… whatever she is to you”—I wave my free hand in the air—“and your child need you.”

“She doesn’t mean anything to me, Cam.” He shakes his head.

“She’s the mother of your child, Alessandro, that should make her mean something.” I can’t help the tears that fall.

Andrea squirms in my arms like he can feel my tension. I stroke his little head and soothe him with loving words as he latches back on.

“Go, we will be here when you get back.”

“You won’t go back to the apartment?” He looks so hurt.

I hate seeing the pain on his face, but I’m dealing with my own demons right now.

“I’ll get Sergio to bring Andrea’s things over, Mel can pack a bag for us. I don’t want to be alone right now.” I don’t make eye contact with him.

He leans down and strokes his hand slowly over Andrea’s dark brown curls. Al had the same when he was born, according to his mother, Adelina.

He tips my chin up, and I close my eyes, unable to meet his gaze. He takes my mouth in a long passionate kiss that leaves me breathless. Then he drops a kiss to the top of my head as I lower my eyes to our son.

“You two mean the world to me, Carmella.”

And with that statement, he leaves.

As soon as he leaves the room, I start to sob, we’re not the only two people in his life anymore. There’s at least one more person, or baby, I should say, that now belongs in his world.

How can I be jealous of a baby?

An innocent.

But what does that mean for me and Andrea? I know that Andrea is his legitimate heir, but what if the baby is a boy? Will he challenge Andrea to his title for underboss? Will he know who we are? Will Al keep him from knowing who he truly is? Will he keep Jade and the child from our world and have a relationship with them on the side? Will he and Andrea have family time with the child away from me?

I know he said he doesn’t have feelings for her. But if he’s spending time with her and the child, will he develop feelings?

Shit!

We haven’t even talked about what we’re feeling, and I have no idea of the kind of relationship they had.

I know he was with her for years, though.

Years. She has years of moments with him when I have weeks.

How can I compete with years?

As my mind whirls with unanswered questions, Bea slips into the room with Sofia. She lays her head on my shoulder, and we sit in silence until the sun goes down.
