The look in her eyes when she heard that conversation was like a stab to the fucking heart, that’s what it felt like. Nothing could have prepared me to see the hurt in her eyes when she found out I’d kept it from her, though.

When was I supposed to bring it up? She’s been so happy since we’ve brought Andrea home. Just watching her love and nurse him did something to my damn chest. The look she has in her eyes as he stares into hers. It’s how I imagine that first shot of heroin feels for a drug addict.

How my life has changed in the last year.

Would I change it?

No fucking way, all my actions gave me Cam and Andrea.

But I have another fucking child.

I was so pissed at Jade when she betrayed me, but what made her do this? I would honestly say I’d made her happy. When she wasn’t being all needy, she pleased me. I didn’t have feelings for her, other than maybe friendship. But what led her to betray me? To not get her fucking shot! How did she think it would play out? Even if I didn’t have Cam as my wife. She knew I could never accept the child into my world. Maybe that’s what it was, a meal ticket. She knew me well enough to know that I would support her and the child. But why would she put a child through that? Her mum treated her and her sister like shit; they were a meal ticket for her from the state.

Nope.

This is bigger than her screwing me over. This has got that cunt Juan written all over it. He mentioned on the call he threatened her family, we just need to figure out why.

A knock sounds on my already open door.

I look up and see Leo with a grim-looking face.

“Want us to set up in here?” he grunts.

“Nah, I’ll come down to your office.” I slip from my chair as I grab my bottle of scotch.

Leo eyes me swig from the bottle. As I pass him, he snags it from my hold and places it on the table in my office.

“It’s not going to help, brother.” He squeezes my shoulder.

He’s always been a brother to me, but it’s not often he acknowledges it.

“What am I going to do, Leo? I’ve fucked everything up. Did you see Cam’s face? Fuck, she couldn’t even look at me.”

“Let’s find Jade and get to the bottom of this. You’re not the first made man to father a bastard, Alessandro,” he grunts. “Come.”

He turns without another word, and I follow him into his office. As we enter, I take note that it’s the five of us that have been dealing with this from the start.

“This needs to stay between us. Of course, it would be handy to have more men. Particularly Nic and Ant. For obvious reasons, until this is sorted out, that’s not possible. Most of our underbosses and their families will be arriving in New York over the next four days for my mother’s fundraiser. Depending on where we get to, I may have no choice but to bring others into this.”

I nod at him, completely understanding. Leo’s trying to keep this on the lowdown, but it’s unlikely not to come to light.

Fuck, Cam’s and my parents are arriving in three days’ time!

Dante has a fucking radar when it comes to his daughter’s happiness. No way are we going to be able to hide this from him.

We spend the next six hours going over where Juan may be keeping Jade and the baby. Jake still hasn’t found any birth records, but then, if she had the baby out of hospital, she may not have registered it yet.

Nothing.

Nowhere.

That’s where we get to.

As we step through the foyer at Leo’s mansion, he points me toward where Cam and Andrea are sleeping.

It’s four in the morning. Andrea won’t be due to feed for another few hours.
