I turn and clasp his shoulder tightly. “You are needed here, brother. You need to process what’s happened over the last twenty-four hours. I will contact you if we find anything.” I pat his back as I turn to leave.

“This is bullshit! It’s my fucking child, Leo. Don’t tell me you would sit back if it was your child,” he hisses.

“Careful, Alessandro, you’ve fucked up enough. Don’t push me on this. Stay here and process. I would say your wife would benefit from your comfort also,” I growl as I turn to glare at him over my shoulder.

As I close the door, I hear something smash against it.

He’s really pushing my fucking patience.

It only takes me twenty minutes to reach Onyx where Jake is already set up when I arrive. He starts to give me information as soon as I enter his office.

“I cross-checked Jade’s phone records from her cell that Alessandro paid for, with the dates her sister confirmed her disappearance. I’ve found a number that she phoned before disappearing and on the day that she disappeared.” Jake points toward me. “I’ve sent you the number.”

“Thanks, anything else I need to know? Any luck on Juan?”

“No, nothing.” Jake shakes his head.

“Okay, good work. Head home. I’ll call if I need you.” I nod at him before heading toward my own office.

When I get there, I make a scotch before slouching behind my desk in the worn brown leather chair. It was a gift from Beatrice. It was her father’s, and she has fond memories of sitting on his knee in this chair. Since he was shot last year, she wanted me to have it. Turning and looking out at the New York skyline, I dial the number Jake sent me.

“Hello?” a sultry voice I know well answers.

Fuck, of all people, it has to be her.

“Katie?” I confirm in a deep tone.

“Leo? Why are you calling? I’ve stayed away from New York. I’ve done nothing to breech your rules,” she huffs.

I fucked this woman for years. I have no idea how I never realized how annoying her tone of voice is. She’s right, I haven’t heard a peep from her since I banished her from New York for trying to fuck with me and Bea.

“I want to know where Alessandro’s child is.” I cut straight to the point.

“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she stutters.

“Don’t fucking lie to me, Katie. Cut the shit and tell me. I know Jade called you the day before she left and then the day she returned without the child,” I hiss.

“Leo I can’t… no, I won’t say anything. You need to speak to Jade.” She’s still tripping over her words.

“She’s dead,” I confirm.

“WHAT?” she cries. “When? How?”

“I have no idea how much she told you, but I’m certainly not going to discuss business with you,” I snap.

“I can’t tell you where I am. I’m following Jade’s orders. She said not to give any information over the phone. She said it might not be safe. Leo, you know who to contact to find me. I’m in a safe house, that’s all I can offer you,” she sniffs down the phone.

“Fine, expect me soon.”

“Leo, I’m only doing what I must. I don’t want any trouble,” she whispers.

“I know. I need you to get rid of this number as soon as we get off the phone. They may not be able to track you, but I don’t want anyone listening to our conversations. Get a new number and send it to our link so I can contact you,” I order.

“Okay,” she confirms.

I end our call and dial Jackson straightaway. She knew I would know she meant for me to contact her father.

“Leo, how are you, my son?” his gruff voice rumbles in my ear.
