Chapter Sixteen

Jason reached a hand around her neck, drawing her mouth to his.If helping her find a journal was the way to her heart, he'd do it a hundred times over.

Stephanie tilted her head back to accept his kiss, and his lips were on hers—a moan escaped, and he swept his tongue in eager to taste her once again.

He heard the same rumble sound as he dived in deeper, until she gently pushed him away."My stomach's rumbling. When is the pizza coming?"

Startled, he gave her a questioning look."What?"He had more plans than just a pizza.

"You ordered one when I was washing up."

"Oh.You're right.I almost forgot.You distracted me."

She put her hands on his face and gave him a quick kiss."I'm so glad.I have practically nothing in my fridge except cheese and some old yogurt.Used up the eggs this morning."

"I don't care about the eggs."Jason pulled her onto his lap and kissed the back of her neck."We don't have to answer the door when the pizza arrives.I used my card, so the delivery person is all set."

She twisted her neck to see his face."You're serious, aren't you? You'd give up the pizza for me?I can't wait to devour that warm, cheesy, pepperoni pizza."

"I have other things I'd rather devour."

She slapped his arm."Down Romeo. You know how hungry I get."She nibbled on his shoulder until he laughed.

"Okay, food first, and we can open the journal at the same time. But that's not all you're going to get tonight."

She perked her head up."What else is on the menu?"

He was about to give her an answer when the knock came at the door.

Talk about timing. It had a way of messing up everything he wanted.

"Aren't you going to answer it?"She leaned back in the chair with an amused look on her face. His blood surged as he watched her move to the bed and lie down on it, her hands behind her head.

She was teasing him, and he knew it.He pushed off from the table, grabbed the pizza from the young man, tossed him a few extra bucks, then waved the box under her nose.

"Guess I can't tell you to set the table," he said, laying the box next to her on the bed.

"I don't eat off the floor.I have napkins and plates."

"Oh, fancy swancy."

"That's not a word, and don't get too excited. You will feast on plastic plates and cheap utensils."

"I would expect no less."

She bumped his shoulder as he began pulling the pieces apart."You always make me laugh. And I don't have any nerves right now. That's a good sign is ..."

She didn't say anymore because he was kissing her.His hands were on her shoulders, and he lowered them to her back, wanting to taste her and feel her in his arms.It had been a long time since he'd held this woman and it was more enticing than a damn pizza."I should save this for dessert," he whispered huskily in her ear.

"You should," she pushed away, but not before he got a thorough kiss. She grabbed the dishes and utensils, and Jason loaded her plate, then his. He'd ordered her favorite, or what had been."Mm, you remembered," she mumbled between bites.

He had taken the edge of the bed, leaving her the one and only chair."Good pizza," he used the napkin to wipe his mouth."Mushrooms, onions, and pepperoni. What's not to love?"

"I don't know why I don't have this more often.I've gotten into ordering Chinese or Thai for lunch and bringing half of it home.Sundays I eat healthy.A rotisserie chicken and salad, fresh fruit."

"Can't say you don't eat well."Better than cafeteria food, anyway.

"But always alone. You're my first and only guest, well except for Carl."
