After they'd both sampled a few, Jason put his fork down."This is a great small town, and to have a restaurant with this quality of food right across from the store, is pretty darn amazing."

"I know, right?I should eat here more often, but then I wouldn't be saving much if I did."

"I want to show you around Albany, I think you'd like it.After you have fully explored the world we live in would you consider coming back and maybe raising a family here?"

She lowered her gaze."I'm quite sure I would. This is a greatforeverplace, but I still want to see Paris in springtime, and Santorini in fall."

"Of course.I meant after your travels.Have you given any thought to the Doctors Without Borders idea?"

Her skin heated.“We’ve been too busy to think of anything. But it does sound interesting, Jason.Figured I'd stay a year here, save my money then fly off to Europe and begin this exciting adventure.Unfortunately it might be harder than I thought."

"That gives me a year to convince you that life is better with two."His eyes searched hers."We could make this work, I'm sure of it."

"What about your family, Kristin and her new baby? And Nicole?"

"They can do without me for a few more years."Jason sipped his wine.

A few more tables were now filled with couples and family.Their solitude was rapidly disappearing.

Steph leaned forward and whispered."We've got company," she made a face."We better eat."Then waving an escargot near his face she grinned."Guess what?"

"I have no idea."

"This is the best escargot I've ever tasted, not that I've dined out that much." "I agree. It's excellent."Jason was dipping his French bread to soak up the sauce. Then would wipe his mouth on his napkin. She liked watching him eat.He always looked so elegant the way he handled his food. Not with Pizza so much.

They'd both ordered tenderloin steaks with mushrooms and asparagus for dinner. They sipped on their wine and made easy conversation, but she could tell that Jason wasn't his usual self.

"You okay?"she asked softly, running her finger up and down the stem of her glass.

"Of course.”Jason tugged at his collar.“I just have something on my mind."

"Well, get it off your mind," she told him with a smile."I want you to enjoy this night with me."She sipped on her wine. Why was he acting strange all of a sudden?"Do you want to leave?I can tell something is bothering you."

He clasped her hand."No, I'm fine.Better than fine.I want to ask you something important, but not here.Let's enjoy our dinner first, then we can discuss it upstairs."

"That's fine by me."Her heart was racing. He was going to propose! How could she possibly eat dinner now?

Clare had removed their escargot plates a few minutes before. She now stood next to their table with two dinner plates on one large tray. She seemed unsure of how to handle the plates and the tray.If she put one down, the other might slide off, but she couldn't put them both down at the same time.It was a balancing act.

Jason understood the immediate problem and partially rose."Let me help you with that."He took one out of her hands."There, that's better."

Clare blushed."I'm sorry. This isn’t getting any easier for me, but I promised Nathan I’d stay through the holiday season."

Stephanie assisted her with her own plate, feeling bad for the girl.

"You're doing fine. This is a friendly town.People are kind here."

"Glad to hear that.I spilled a bowl of soup on some poor old man this afternoon. It just slipped out of my hands."

"Yikes. Not your best day.I'm sure he wasn't angry, or was he?"

"No.He went to the "men's" and cleaned up.Then he asked for one to go."Clare giggled."I was actually relieved."

Once the waitress left, they ate most of their fine meal, but they were both eager to leave and return to her apartment. The heated looks Jason had been giving her had her skin on fire.

All Steph could think about was being alone with him. This would be the most important decision they'd ever make in their entire lives.Stephanie was willing to compromise for Jason. They could work it out as true love had no boundaries.
