“Oooohhhh yeah,” I laugh, “I was so sure I figured out all the secrets of the universe, and I tried to write it all down, and when I sobered up, it was pure gibberish.”

“The general experience of every baby stoner,” Theo nods knowingly, “I went through the stoner phase in high school, and we all think we unlock the meaning of life and understand everything when we first get seriously baked.”

Josie snorts. “I don’t think Sofia and I got that deep, we just got the munchies and ate everything in our dorm room, then watched Disney movies and nearly laughed ourselves sick.”

“Also a pretty typical experience,” Theo laughs, “So what about you, Josie, what do you do?”

“Well, I do some freelance data entry here and there, but mainly I actually work for MysteryMatch,” she explains sheepishly.

“Oh, that’s cool, what do you do there?” I ask.

But before she can give us an answer, the server comes around for drink refills, and by the time she leaves, I’ve forgotten the question and the conversation shifts.

The three of us keep chatting for hours, until I notice Josie yawning and realize that my own eyelids have grown pretty heavy. I glance at my watch and to my shock, it’s about 20 minutes to midnight, and we’re probably gonna be chased out by the server before long.

Theo insists on paying the bill and we all walk out to the parking lot. I’m pleased to see that by happy coincidence, I parked right beside Theo’s slick little sports car. Josie’s parked a few spots down, so we both walk her out to her car, mostly as an excuse to soak up a little more time together.

“Have either of you ever done this before?” Josie asks as we walk up to the silver sedan she pointed out as her own.

“Done what?” Theo asks.

“A relationship like this, where you dated multiple people at once.”

Theo shakes his head, but I nod. “Yeah, an ex-girlfriend of mine got me into it,” I explain, “She came to me one day and told me that she’d developed a crush on a friend of hers, and that her friend had mentioned how attractive I was, so one thing kind of led to another…” I shrug, “It didn’t end up working out for other reasons, but I enjoyed it, so a while after that, I got involved with this couple for about a year until they wound up moving.”

“Oh, good, so at least one of us knows what they’re doing,” Theo laughs, “Unless you’ve done this before, Josie?”

She shakes her head. “Never. I actually didn’t even know it was a thing you could do, really, at least not until my friend sort of wound up with two boyfriends by accident.”

“How do you acquire boyfriends by accident?” I ask with a laugh.

“It’s kind of a long story,” she giggles.

“Well, maybe you could tell us next time,” Theo says, “At least…I’m assuming there’ll be a next time?”

“I’d like that,” I agree.

There’s a flash of something I can’t quite read on Josie’s face, and she fiddles with the chain of her necklace for a moment. The pendant dips below her neckline, so I’m not sure what it is. “I would, too,” she says after a moment.

The three of us exchange numbers and agree to go out again Friday night, but before we bid her goodnight, Josie hesitates. “So, Alex, as the voice of experience, I’ve got a question for you.”

“Sure, go for it?”

“How would a first kiss work on a date like this? Obviously I can’t kiss both of you at once, so do you just sort of…take turns?”

I laugh. “Yeah, usually. In my experience, it was usually just a matter of grabbing whoever was closest first.”

“Interesting.”

I take a step closer to her. “Kind of like this,” I murmur, reaching for her and gently pulling her close to me.

I move in slowly, giving her time to retreat if she’s not ready, but she makes no effort to move away from me, and I brush my lips over hers in a kiss like molten sugar, sweet and searing hot.

It’s fucking mind-blowing in a way I wasn’t expecting. She’s a good kisser, sure, but it’s more than that. It’s fireworks.

And when I release her, leaving her looking a bit dazed, and turn my attentions to Theo, it’s ever bit as good despite being totally different. Unlike her smooth skin and full, soft lips, his stubble is rough against my face and his mouth is harder on mine.

But the differences only serve to remind me, without a doubt, that I am definitely bisexual. I’m just as turned on by the touch of a man as I am a woman, and both like this, at once? It’s my favorite fucking place to be.

The couple I’d told them about had been great and all, we’d had a lot of fun together, but nothing we’d done had ever lit me up half as much as those kisses, and they’d never felt so easy to talk to.

Theo and Josie…it’s almost like I’ve known them forever, even while things feel fresh and new and exciting. It’s weird, and confusing…and I like it, and them, a lot.
