“Yeah, it’s technically been Sunday for a few minutes now. Any other plans while you’re out here?”

There was another silence that had him glancing over.

“Yeah. I’ve got plans.”

The half smirk on her face reminded him she was probably still a little buzzed.

His resolve hardened to drop her off and forget about this night.

“This is her apartment. On the right.” Kristen gestured to an old building up ahead. “You can park in the loading zone. You won’t be here long.”

Not long at all.

He pulled his truck into the small spot and put it in Park. “You’re okay to get inside? Maybe I should walk—”

“I’m fine.” Her tone was gentle as she laid a hand on his arm. “Thank you for keeping me entertained tonight. Even if it wasn’t exactly what I’d hoped for.”

His grunted. “It wouldn’t have been right. You’d had too much to drink.”

“I know, I know. We’ve been over this.” She reached for the door handle and then paused. She turned in her seat to face him. “Can I just kiss you again before I go, though? I want to see something.”

His chest went tight, and his dick lurched. See something? Like what? If he had barbecue chips in his teeth? What a weird remark.

Kissing again would be a bad idea, so why couldn’t he make himself tell her that?

She must’ve taken his silence as agreement because she slid closer and leaned in. Her lips brushed against his in a featherlight caress before returning again in a bolder stroke.

That was all it took to snap his bad idea mantra in half. He cupped the back of her neck and returned the kiss, stroking his tongue deep to taste her and hear that soft moan.

His breath caught, and his blood began to pound.

She pulled away suddenly and pressed her fingers to her lips.

“Oh my God, I literally have goose bumps,” she muttered in disbelief. “Yeah, it’s kind of a good thing we didn’t sleep together.”

“It is?” Going by that kiss and her ego-stroking words, he had to disagree. She was literally like no one he’d ever been involved with, yet he was surprisingly attracted to her.

“Yes. A very good thing. I mean Tori was right, I might’ve gotten attached.”

And there it was. His jaw clenched as irritation swelled inside him. “Was I some kind of bet?”

“A bet? Huh?” Her brows drew together, and she gave him a scornful look. “No. This was my thing. I’m trying to find someone to be my first.”

“Your first what? Paramedic to fuck?”

“What? That’s just weird.” In the streetlight, he could see her cheeks pinken. “Are you really this slow? My first.”
