His nostrils flare again as he stands up in front of me. “What did you do, you little shit?”
I can’t help the smile forming on my face. The fact that he’s so invested in my hockey career is laughable. It’s not even coming from a place of caring either; he just wants someone to control.
When my mom was alive, he had two people he could control. It wasn’t as bad when she was alive. When she died, his attention was on me, and I wished it wasn’t. Then I left for college. The bastard couldn’t find anyone else to become his punching bag.
“Do you really want to know?”
He fists his hands in a fit of anger. “If you did a stupid thing...” His eyes tell me he already knows the answer to that. I know how this will end. I should’ve eaten before I came here.
The bastard he is, I need to be prepared before visiting him.
Even though heisa bastard, that doesn’t mean I’m not.
I brought this on myself.
Sighing, I brace myself. “I hope you’re ready then. Because as you probably already know, I’m a fucking idiot.” His eyebrows shoot up again.Here goes...

I’ve been uneasy lately. Something happened the other night, but I can’t put my finger on it.
I wasn’t wearing underwear that morning. I must’ve been too tired to realize, but it made me uncomfortable that it was missing.
Why was it missing, and where the fuck is it?
Andwhathappened?
Taya and Sarah expressed concern when I arrived back to the room that morning. They told me I disappeared around midnight the night before. Supposedly, Nick disappeared too. That simple fact made me uneasy.
That was definitely him next to me.
“Leia, are you okay? It’s been three days, and you haven’t left this room.” Sarah pops back in with her gym bag. I wasn’t expecting her to be back so soon.
I’ve been holing up in the room, staring out the window to the student pavilion. Lately, I’ve been going to my classes, and then I come back to my room. I didn’t want to run into any familiar people except my roommates. Track season is over, so there’s no need for me to be hanging out after class.
“I’m fine, Sarah. I just...needed time to myself,” I say, gulping. It’s not a complete lie, but I don’t tell her the reason I needed time to myself.
She frowns, walking over to me. “Did you find out what happened the other night?”
My breath hitches at that. I wasn’t expecting to talk aboutthis, either. I shake my head, tears welling in my eyes. My memory is a blur.
“I can’t even remember what happened after Nick gave me that drink,” I choke out.
She gives me another sad look. It’s my breaking point. Suddenly, tears are streaming down my face, and I can’t control my breathing. She hugs me tightly, trying to calm me down, but it only half works.
“Shhhh, love. Breathe.Breathe,” she whispers, hugging me tighter. I’m thinking of the worst-case scenario, and it keeps playing over and over in my head. If Nick took advantage of me...I don’t know what I’d do. “You don’t think Nick...didanything, right?”
Gulping, I try to talk over the lump in my throat. “I honestly don’t know,” I choke out. It’s not likely that he did do that, but I’m just confused and scared. I was sore. Then again...when we were dating, he pushed sex often. But I’m not sure if he would push boundaries like that. “Sarah...I can’t remember anything,” I whisper, my voice breaking.
She tries to quiet me, but someone knocking on the door breaks the tense moment. Sarah slowly gets up and looks at me, confused. I don’t know who it could be. Gulping, my heartbeat speeds up in anticipation to see who’s there.
“What the hell areyoudoing here?!” Sarah shrieks, my spine chilling. “You shouldnotbe here right now.”
Holy shit. My anxiety rises when Nick’s face appears. I sit back farther on my bed, trying to distance myself from him as far as possible. I can’t be near him right now.
“I just need to talk to her,” he argues. His eyes meet mine, my heart wanting to beat out of my chest. “Leia,” he whispers, walking over to me.
“Stop,” I urge. He stops immediately, widening his eyes. “Don’tcome any closer.”
