A ping caught her attention, and she gazed toward where the sound had originated.

She rose from the sofa, shlepped into the kitchen, and noticed her cell phone on the table. The device pinged again. She picked it up and cocked her head to the side.

Thirty-seven missed text messages from Penny, Charlotte, and Libby and eleven missed calls.

Her friends were in serious freak-out mode.

She scanned the messages, picking up bits and pieces.

Charlotte 11:06 a.m.: Harper, you were amazing. OMG, you killed it on LookyLoo!

Penny 11:08 a.m.: Vance’s expression was priceless. Grr, I hate that guy.

Libby: 11:09 a.m.: Holy cosmic creativity. H, you are hella connected to your chi. Your energy is off the charts. Also, what are you on?

What was she on?

She gasped.

The lollipops.

Everything had gone sideways after she’d binged the sweet earthy treats.

Holy psychedelic head trip! Tanner’s lollipops must have been laced with something. That was the only explanation.

And then, like one of those optical illusion pictures where you stare and stare until an image emerges, her brain fog burned off and the day’s events rose to her consciousness.

She studied her hands—hands that had been rather chatty earlier. But they didn’t make a sound, thank God. She exhaled a relieved breath when the muffled laughter caught her attention again.

She wasn’t alone.

It was Landon and Aria.

Of course, it was Landon and Aria. They lived here.

“Come on, brain, you’ve got to kick it into high gear. And no more talking appendages,” she whispered with a minute shake of her head, then checked the time.

8:45 p.m.

Where the hell had the day gone?

As if her brain had decided to comply with her request, a flood of images flashed through her mind like one of those olden days cameras that created an explosion of light.

Flash!

Aria, with her pigtails bouncing and backpack swaying, as she ran toward her new school with Phoebe, Oscar, and Sebastian.

Flash!

Schuman Sweet, sleeping in her living room as she and Landon baked penis cookies.

Flash!

Vance’s face when she started singing “Every Time You Break My Heart.”

Vance!

He and Bang Bang Barbie were their Bake or Bust competitors. That was even trippier than whatever was in those spiked lollipops.
