His head snaps up and he levels me with a stare that makes me take a step back. “Colton isn’t angry we’re together. He’s worried about you.”

“Why is he worried?”

“He thinks I’m going to do something to make you leave,” he explains. “Apparently, he’s heard some of the rumors about me in town and is convinced I did something to make his mom leave. And he thinks I’m going to do the same thing to you.”

I place my hand over my chest, the beat of my heart thumping against it. “Oh, my.” Hot tears sting my eyes. “He really thinks that?”

Theo nods. I rush toward him, placing my hands on his cheeks, my thumbs brushing along his bottom lip before I lean in and press my lips against his. I didn’t intend for the kiss to get heated; I merely wanted to reassure him, but he’s not content to remain passive. With his lips firmly against mine, he pushes my hands from his face and slides an arm around my back, drawing me tight against his body.

With each sweeping pass of his lips, I sink deeper into his embrace, into the sensation of being kissed so thoroughly there is hardly a moment to breathe.

His other hand cups my jaw, holding my face steady as his thumb brushes along my jaw, teasing the corner of my lips. “Hadley,” he says with an exhale. “I’ve always been a man who goes after what he wants, and I want you. But it’s not because you’re beautiful or sexy. It’s because you saved us, Hadley. You saved me, and I’m going to do whatever it takes to keep you.”

His hand slips to the base of my throat, right over my pulse. His grip is firm but not threatening, a subtle reminder of his dominant side. He slams his mouth against mine, his kiss ferocious and consuming, a demonstration of the man he claims to be, someone who takes what they want, when they want it, and how they want it. The hand at my back drifts to my ass, squeezing a cheek before sliding beneath the waistband of my black leggings. It reminds me of the promise he made earlier before Colton caught us.

“Take these off,” he demands, before removing his hand and stepping back to give me space.

Losing the sensation of his hands on me makes me feel cold and empty so I comply swiftly with his command, anxious for the warmth of his touch.

When my leggings hit the floor, I step out of them and wait. His pupils dilate and his nostrils flare before he says, “Now the hoodie and your T-shirt.”

“What about my bra?” I can’t help myself, and he knows it.

“Leave it.”

I smirk as I pull the hoodie and then the T-shirt off, until the only thing I’m wearing is a plain white lace bra. Theo sucks in a breath and then taps two fingers against his lips. “There are two sides to everyone, Hadley,” he begins, taking a step forward. He slips a finger under one strap of my bra, pulling it taut before letting it snap against my skin. “Dark and light. Good and bad. Which side do you want tonight, baby? The good man who will love you sweet and tenderly, or the bad man who will tease and torment every drop of pleasure from your body.”

I want to challenge him, tell him to do his worst because I can take it. I can handle whatever he gives me, hard and soft, fast or slow.

“There’s only one man I’m interested in tonight,” I say softly. My words make him stop circling me.

“Who’s that?”

“The man in love with me.”
