“Married? What are you talking about?” I finally managed to say.
He stepped closer and whispered in a voice that used to drive me wild but now pissed me off. “You remember how it was between us,” he said, his face close to my ear, his breath making me want to swat at it.
“I do,” I said.
What I remembered was being emotionally, financially, and sexually available to him, and him taking full advantage.
“We can have that again,” he said.
I smiled despite myself, and he looked at me, confused.
“Is this funny?”
“I—”
My words were cut off by his kiss.
He kissed me hard, forcefully, as though he were trying to prove something.
I broke the kiss and then glared at him like he was out of his mind.
“Have you gone crazy?” I said.
“I am crazy,” he said, a smile on his face. “Crazy for you.”
I blinked, wondering what reaction I was supposed to have to that.
The one I was having was irritation that was rapidly turning into anger.
“Keenan, I don’t know what’s come over you. But you can go ahead and forget whatever the hell this is.”
“Ames—”
“My name is Amy,” I said.
“Amy,” he responded, looking chastised, though that didn’t placate me. “I think we should—”
“Hey, Amy—”
The door swung open, and Davit walked in.
“Damn it! Don’t you know how to knock, Josh?” Keenan said, his voice sharp.
Davit lifted his hands in placation, though his expression was anything but remorseful. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt anything.”
“You didn’t interrupt anything,” I interjected.
How quickly things changed.
Not even an hour ago, I had been happy to see Keenan as a break from Davit, and now the roles were reversed.
I had half a mind to tell both of them the fuck off, but instead I looked at Keenan. “I meant what I said. But I can clarify later if you need me to,” I said.
“No,” he responded, adjusting his tie. “I don’t think that’ll be necessary.”
He left without another word, and when he was gone, I finally looked at Davit.
Any trace of Josh was gone from his face, and if I wasn’t mistaken, he looked halfway amused.
