“You can see yourself out,” Elias said. “Kayla, come here.”

She appeared seconds later. “Yes?” she asked.

Elias said nothing, just stared at Isaac, who eventually nodded and left again.

“What do you need, Elias?” Kayla asked when he was gone.

“Nothing,” he said, his voice icy, dismissive, and distant.

Kayla didn’t miss that, but she simply rolled her eyes and left.

“What the fuck was that?” I asked when she was gone.

“I don’t know. But Raphael and Isaac are playing with fire.”

“Well, hopefully both of them will get burned,” I said.
