I knew everything with Isaac was a game, and right now, all three of us were engaged in brinkmanship where it wouldn’t due to show emotion.

“Isaac, how long have you known me?”

He shrugged. “A very long time, Elias.”

“And in that time, have you ever known me to care about personal matters, especially when business is on the table?”

“No, which was why I was so surprised by this meeting.”

“Well, you shouldn’t have been. Because you said I was interfering with your business, when in fact, it’s you interfering with Petrosyan business.”

“How so?” Isaac asked.

“James and I have a pre-existing relationship. And you are trying to cut in on that.”

“Not at all. I have nothing to do with your business with him, and actually don’t care to know anything about it. I saw an opportunity to expand operations and took it. Just the same as you did and would have,” he said.

“No, you’re making a move that could be very easily misconstrued. Very easily,” Elias said.

“Well, none of us want that, now do we?” Isaac said.

“Wants so seldom come into play, but as long as we both understand the situation,” Elias said.

“We do,” Isaac said. Then he turned his attention to me. “I hear congratulations are in order?”

“It was nice seeing you again, Isaac,” I said by way of response.

That got the faintest smile from him, but after a moment, he stood.

“Well, if there’s nothing else?” He looked around expectantly.

“There isn’t,” Elias said. “Not yet.”

Isaac nodded and looked out the window before refocusing on Elias. “Where did you find your secretary?”

He waited a moment and then added, “I’m in the market for someone.”

“Good night, Isaac,” Elias said.

On the surface, he looked completely serene, calm. But I was his brother, and could see the faint change in him. And I didn’t doubt the source of it.

Just as I knew Isaac didn’t.

“I know when I’ve overstayed my welcome,” Isaac said.

He nodded his head at the both of us and then left.

We sat in silence, waiting, and then there was a knock on the door.

“Enter,” Elias said.

Kayla came in, though she stayed near the doorway.

“He’s out of the elevator, heading down the block,” she said.

I knew Isaac well enough to know that he would expect us to be tracking him, so I didn’t expect him to do anything out of order.

Elias didn’t either, but it was still important to keep eyes and ears open.
