Amethyst

Six months later

“Areyou sure everything has been delivered?” I asked Davit.

“Yes, Amethyst, I am. Just like I was ten minutes ago when you asked,” he said.

I tsked and then laughed.

“I’m sorry. This is the first time I have thrown a wedding. I want everything to be perfect,” I said.

He smiled at me indulgently, something I didn’t think I’d ever get used to.

“Paulette told you she didn’t want anything too big. She also told you there’s no need to stress,” he said.

“I know what Paulette said, butevery woman wants a nice wedding,” I said.

“You didn’t have a nice wedding,” Davit said.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, my brows knitted.

“You were in the living room in the hotel suite, and a lawyer came by and you signed some papers, and that was it,” he replied.

“And it was perfect!” I responded.

He shook his head.

“Fine. I give in. What do you need me to do?”

“Go check the food,” I said.

“I just checked—”

I cut him off. “Check it again. And tell the men to keep their guns out of sight. I don’t want them to ruin the pictures,” I said.

He just laughed and left the apartmentwhile I went to make sure the linens were in order.

Kayla and Crystal were in the living room, and when I walked in, Kayla smiled.

“I’m going to need a vacation after this,” she said.

“You sound like Elias. She’s not even a year old. Wait till she’s a toddler,” I said.

Kayla laughed and then rolled a ball to Crystal, who scooted over to retrieve it.

Though Kayla might have complained, she had a soft smile on her face, one I had seen more than a couple times.

“Do you mind if I run down to the lobby?” I asked.

“Crystal will make sure nothing happens to me,” she said.

I left and went to the lobby to check the food.

Davit had done it already—twice—but I really did want everything to be perfect.

After all that had happened recently, it felt like this wedding was important for everyone. We all needed to celebrate.
