“Is thereanything I can get you?” Kayla asked.

I was so happy to see her.

I shook my head. “No. And thank you,” I said, reaching out to squeeze her hand.

“For what?” she said.

I smiled. “Am I to believe that Elias remembered to get a car seat and clothes? Or that he outfitted this place. There’s even a wipe warmer!”

Kayla chuckled. “He does have an eye for detail,” she said.

“I’m sure he does, but I know that getting this stuff was all you. Thank you, Kayla,” I said.

I started to tear up, and she reached out to pat my shoulder.

“I’m sorry,” I said, wiping at the tears.

“For what?”

I laughed, though nothing was particularly funny. “It’s just that I’m trying to make you my friend, and I don’t know if crying allover you is the best way to do that.”

“There’s no trying, Amy. You are my friend, and I’m yours. And crying is not a problem. I can’t even imagine…”

She trailed off and looked over toward Crystal, who was happily kicking.

Seeing her like that, so carefree, made my heart clench.

I breathed out deep and then sat down. I grabbed one of the wipes out of the warmer and started to wipe my tears.

“This is actually pretty nice,” I said as Iheld the warm wipe in my hand.

“Is it?” she said.

“Yeah. Grab one.”

She did and wiped her face and nodded in agreement. “Yeah. That’s almost spa quality.”

She sat next to me, and we both laughed.

“This is kind of insane,” I said.

“Can you be a little more specific?” she asked.

I laughed, and she smiled.

“My point exactly.”

I looked at her, serious, and she looked back, her expression wary.

“What is it?” she finally said.

“How are you here? With them?” I whispered.

She didn’t answer immediately, though I knew she understood what I meant.
