Increasingly hard to stomach, Parks and Julian. Sits weird with me. Makes me angry whenever I think of it. Don’t know why — I do — but it’s more than just the obvious.

The obvious being that I love her and I’m trying to fix what’s broken, the less obvious is that she’s breaking us more. I am too, I guess.

Shouldn’t have sent her that text the other night though. That was shit of me. We haven’t spoken since. Not like us. I breathe out my nose louder than I mean to.

“What?” Jo glances at me.

I shake my head a bit.

“I don’t know.” I shrug. “I kind of can’t believe you’re letting him just fuck around with her.”

He pauses the game. Looks over at me, a bit surprised.

“You think that’s what he’s doing?”

I shrug again. “He was all over that girl the other night.”

“What, like you used to be?”

I roll my eyes.

“I mean, he hasn’t had a girlfriend since high school.” Jo shrugs. “The other night, I don’t reckon it would have crossed his mind that him touching that girl would have annoyed Parks.”

I eye him. “Is he an idiot?”

“Are you?” he shoots back.

My jaw goes tight.

“Come on.” He gives me a look. “Beej, he’s wanted Parks since she was sixteen.”

Fuck.

Fuck!

“So they’re together?”

“No.” He sighs, thinking about it. “But probably about as together as he can be with anyone.”

“What do you mean?”

“Like, not fucking around with anyone else.”

I stare at him a few seconds. “He’s not sleeping with anyone else?” Feel my face freeze.

“That’s what he told me.” He shrugs. “Under the guise of ‘she’s such a fucking handful. Who has the time?’ But, I mean, it’s Julian, so if he wanted to, he would be.”

Shit.

“You think he’d date her?”

Jo shakes his head, sure.

“No. No relationships.”

I roll my eyes. “They’re in a relationship.”

“No labels then. He’ll never call her his girlfriend.” Shrugs. “It’d never be enough for her.”
