Kim says, “Hmm. I hope she remembers something soon. This might be the break we’re looking for.”

Harrison pipes up, “I don’t think she’s one of us, but I think she’s a clue. Find out more.”

He bounds off towards the pack leaders’ cabin and I turn to Kim. “If she’s not a werewolf, maybe she knows more? She said that she saw a big black wolf. Any thoughts?”

I ease into a spot by the bonfire, completely sober from my events in the woods with Alana. Those thoughts will help me sleep later tonight.

Kim frowns and says, “Something isn’t right. Something isreallywrong. What if other wolves are responsible for this?”

I raise an eyebrow as Alana comes back into focus. She looks at me and Kim and says, “Brittney’s sleeping. I asked her if she’d feel up to transforming tomorrow to help us look, but she had no idea what I was talking about.”

“She’s human.”

Kim throws her hands up in the air. “Great, we found a missing human.”

I hold up a finger. “Hold up. We found a missing human with a werewolf hot on her trail. Damn it, I wish I hadn’t killed him!”

Alana sets a hand on my shoulder, being careful to not look too comfortable with me. “If you had let him live, who knows what he would have done to her.”

Kim eyes me as I say, “The question is, why are wolves chasing humans?”

Kim and Alana wear blank stares.

“Other wolves are in on this. This is an operation.”
