I nod. “I do, alone. Thanks.”
There’s a challenge in Amina’s eyes but I glower as she opens her mouth to reply. She settles on shooting a dirty look at Alana before turning on her heel and leaving.
Alana visibly relaxes and watches Amina go. “Thanks. She’s been at it all day. She’s pissed off that I took a good serving of breakfast before her.”
“Well, that’s a stupid reason to corner someone and try and eat them.”
Alana’s lips spread into a smile, and she chuckles. “I guess she does try to eat people.”
The way her face lit up for a moment sends a wave of something odd through me. She is cute, and she’s obviously vulnerable. I wonder how she would feel if she could just relax for a while.
I wonder if she’d let me get to know her.
I focus my eyes on hers. “Hey, Alana.”
“Yeah?”
“Would it be alright if I looked out for you?”
