I hear my favorite sales clerk make some small talk with James, and then she’s gone. She can’t resist saying something to this very handsome man.
“Will you open the door now please?” James says.
With one last glance in the mirror, I open the door and there James is, dressed in a tuxedo. He looks like he’s James Bond- complete with a red bow tie.
“Like minds. I love red too.”
“James, why are you here?” I sigh.
James hands me a black velvet necklace case.
“What is this?”
“Something beautiful for the most beautiful woman I know.”
I try to hand it back, but James won’t take it.
“Open it please,” James says.
“Look James- all these flowers and gifts? Really? This has to stop.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m not going to let either one of you hurt me.”
“It’s just me, Alexa. I will never hurt you. Just open the box please.”
I hesitate and then realize that he’s not going to go away until I open the box. When I do, my heart stops. It’s a diamond necklace with a heart. In the middle of the heart is my name spelled out in diamonds.
“I want you, Alexa. Will you please come with me?”
This is the sweetest thing a man has ever done for me. I admit that I’m worn down by all the flowers and gifts. But the thing that really wins my heart over is all the effort that James has put into courting me. Usually with men, it’s just off to bed for sex, and then they disappear.
“I’m speechless,” I say.
James takes the necklace out of the box and puts it on me. I look at him in the mirror. He’s about a foot taller than me, but we look perfect as a couple.
I love this man, and I love Mattheo too. It might be a long and twisted ride, my loving both of them. But at this moment, I know in my heart that I do, and that nothing can stop that now.
