“It’s fine, Rafe. What happened in Vegas stays there. I’ve heard the saying.”

He didn’t let go of her and she didn’t fight to get away. “Laura, I’m not that kind of guy.”

“Sure you are. You were there looking for a hook-up. I get it. See you later, Rafe.”

“That weekend was very special,” he said, and she heard the sincerity in his voice.

“Don’t do that,” she whispered.

“Do what?”

“Make that weekend something I should regret.”

“Why would you regret it?” he asked, confused.

She sighed. “Because it was amazing, and I’ll never have it again.”

“Why not?”

Another sigh. “Because I’m not that kind of girl. The husband, the babies, and all that stuff—I don’t want it.”

Before she knew what he was doing he’d yanked her back to him and kissed her this time. She struggled, and he stopped immediately.

“Stop,” she hissed. “I don’t need your pity.”

He grabbed her hips and ground against her, groaning at the pressure on his cock. She gasped.

“It’s not pity,” he said, his voice harsh. “I just don’t want to take advantage of you.”

This close he could see her smirk. “Wouldn’t I be taking advantage of you since I started it and I’m your boss?”

He dropped his forehead to hers. “I—”

“I just want another taste of what we had. No strings, no obligations.”

“And at work?”

“You telling me you can’t control yourself, Ranger?” she said her voice low and seductive. She didn’t even recognize her own voice.

Rafe cut her off by stepping in and dragging her against him before slamming his lips down on her. One beat passed, then Laura kissed him back. For the last six weeks she’d been wondering if her imagination had made more of this than it was. It had not. In fact, it was even better than her imagination remembered.

He backed her against the wall, his tongue stroking her in a way that made her blood pound in her veins. His hands pulled at her wet shirt and when his heated skin hit her chilled damp flesh she shuddered and he backed away.

“Come on, we need to get you warm, Freckles,” he whispered and the sound of his nickname for her made heat coil inside her despite the cold. Grabbing her hand, he led her out the door and they ran together through the pouring rain to the bunkhouse.

Inside, he stripped off his raincoat and boots. Laura left her boots by the door as well. Rafe led her to the bathroom. “I’ll be right back with some towels and dry clothes, Freckles. Get the water warmed up.”

He pressed his lips to hers again, but it was too fast to be satisfying. Laura’s teeth chattered even as she turned on the water and began stripping her clothes off. She didn’t hear Rafe return, so when he wound his arms around her from behind already naked she jerked in his arms. He froze but didn’t let go right away.

“Are you sure, Freckles? I don’t want—”

“I do,” she insisted. Just the feel of his skin this close was enough to set her senses reeling. Her body remembered their weekend together in vivid detail. It seemed like the longer it had been since he’d touched her the more she craved it. Rafe touched his lips to the nape of her neck and her knees actually buckled.

His arms were tight enough around her now, though, that she didn’t fall.

Sunny ignoredthe alarms and red flags going up in his brain. Laura was in his arms and, for now at least, he had no intention of letting her go. Seeing her in the barn with every curve of her body outlined by her wet clothes had made him hard in an instant. When he’d realized that she was truly freezing his instincts had kicked in, insisting that he get her warm and dry as soon as possible.
