She nodded and knelt to do as he asked. Sunny closed his eyes, but the image of her kneeling there on the floor between his feet was now burned into his traitorous brain. Her touch was sure, but gentle.

She trailed her hands up the side of his legs as she stood. Had she done that on purpose? Did she want to touch him, or was she just letting him know where she was since his eyes were closed? It had to be the second one, right?

“Ready to stand up?”

“Can you get this gown off first?” he said, gesturing to the ugly printed hospital garment.

“Sure,” she said, and he heard only the tiniest tremble in her voice as she reached for the laces at his shoulders. Was it lucky or unlucky that they’d left him in only his boxer briefs?

She dropped the hospital gown on the bed, and he leaned one hand on her and the other on the bed rail as he stood. His head only spun a little, but the thought of bending over was a bit daunting. Laura must have seen his hesitance because she knelt down again and pulled his jeans up around his thighs so he could reach them, keeping her eyes averted.

Thank god or she might have seen his dick start to lengthen because she was so close to it and on her fucking knees again. Damn it, he needed to get a hold of himself.

Pulling the jeans up, he pulled some of the hair on his thigh on purpose, the pain immediately stopping his dick in its tracks. Sunny hissed at the sensation. Yeah, he much preferred to dole out the pain rather than receive it, so that did the trick.

He sat back down, and Laura held up his shirt, so he took it and pulled it over his head.

“I need my—” he started, but she was already moving to get his boots, placing them next to his feet. These cowboy boots were much easier to get on than combat boots, thank god.

He was dressed and still sitting, but Sunny was pretty sure if he laid down right now, he could definitely go right back to sleep. Thankfully, Tori showed up less than a minute later.

“Alright, everything’s all set. You need to rest for the next two days, minimum.”

“Sure, sure,” he said, injecting enough cockiness into it to annoy her. Which worked, judging by her narrowed eyes.

“It’s your brain, Ranger. If you want to lose a few more neurons, be my guest, but I doubt you’ve got that many to spare.”

Ouch.

Laura was frowning at Tori like she wanted to say something, so he answered instead. “It’s just a bumped head, Doc. I got this.”

“Sure you do,” she grumbled. “Rest.” She looked at Laura with a stern face. “If you can’t wake him up any time in the next forty-eight hours or if you noticeanythingodd, call me,” she said handing Laura a card with what must have been her number scrawled on it.

“Of course Dr. Durst”

“At least one of you can take orders. Now get out of my ER.”

She left without another word, and a tech brought in a wheelchair.

“Why can’t I just walk outside?” he grumbled.

“Can you?” Laura asked, her eyebrows raised.

Sunny stood and swayed. “Exactly. Please sit down.”

If her tone hadn’t been so reasonable, he probably would have refused. Or not. He sank into the chair and Laura walked beside him to the entrance. Sunny did a double take when they exited the hospital. The sun was just coming up.

“What time is it?” he asked, glancing up at Laura.

She glanced at her phone. “Six-thirty or so.”

“In the morning?”

“Um, yes?”

“We were in there all night? Why didn’t you go home?”

“I wasn’t leaving you. I’ve been texting with Eli, and he was fine with it.”
