“And yet, when you were at your most vulnerable, you did.”

Sunny scowled at her.

“I’m just saying, you could do worse. Plus, she took pretty good care of you.”

Sunny’s brow furrowed. Tori was right, of course. Laura had taken good care of him that night, but that was just because she was a nice person. Right?

“And you’re supposed to be the smart one,” she said, shaking her head.

Sunny didn’t get a chance to respond, because the door opened, and Sadie walked in with Eagle.

“Tori, it’s so good to see you,” Eagle said, giving her a hug. “This is my wife, Sadie.”

“It’s nice to meet you.”

“How long have you been in town?”

“Just a week. I was going to come out later this week anyway, then our little ray of sunshine ended up in my emergency room. So I made a quick house call.”

“Are you planning to stay out here for a while?”

“Yeah, I think so. I like it so far. Very small town.”

Sadie snorted. “It doesn’t get much smaller than Felton.”

“Well, we’re having a get together next weekend, just a gathering for family and close friends. You should come. You can meet Cap’s girl and Harper, too.”

“I’d love to, thanks,” she said with a smile. “I need to get going now though. My shift at the hospital starts soon.”

“Great, we’ll see you next week, then.”

They all watched her go and Sunny stared up at Eagle. “A party?”

“Cap is throwing it for Hilary.”

“Why?”

He shrugged. “He didn’t say. Just planned it.”

“So a party of just us? Isn’t that just dinner?”

“We invited some people from town too,” Eagle said.

“Like who?”

“Delsey and Davey from the paper.”

He snorted. “That’s two people.”

“It’ll be fun. What else have we got to do on a Saturday night?” Eagle asked.

That was true enough. It’s not like there was much night life in Felton anyway, and definitely not the type of clubbing he wanted. Maybe it was time to see if he could find a club anywhere closer than Vegas. Maybe if he did that he’d stop having the inappropriate fantasies about his boss.

Why did that thought make his stomach twist just thinking about it? It’s not like he could have another night with her. As hot as their time together had been, he needed more than vanilla sex. Plus you know the whole boss thing.

Yeah, once he was feeling better he definitely needed to get off the ranch. Until then, he wanted to make sure she was alright. She’d looked a little pale when she ran out of there. Mind made up, he pushed himself into sitting. His head only spun a little.

“Where are you going?” Eagle asked.
