When she gives me a little smile, I want to grab her and pull her into my arms. But, I have a feeling I’m not out of the woods quite yet. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, Savannah. You wanted to know why I asked you to marry me,” I say. “Well, the night we met, my heart beat again. I know that probably sounds stupid, but it’s the best way I can explain it. How you made me feel, I mean.”

“It’s not stupid, Nick. It’s actually kind of adorable.”

“Yeah?” I ask and feel my mouth edge up in the first smile I’ve felt in days.

“Yeah,” she says and moves closer to me. When she’s directly in front of me, Savannah lays a hand on the left side of my chest. “And, what’s your heart feeling now?”

A very strong emotion swells within me and it can only be one thing. “Love,” I admit in a low voice. A sheen of tears fills her eyes and when one slips free and slides down her cheek, I brush it away. “I love you, Savannah. I did from the very beginning. I was just too stubborn to realize it.”

When she smiles, I pull her into my arms and capture her lips in a slow, tender kiss. She leans into me and returns the kiss with such a sweetness that something inside me fractures. But, it’s a good break, though. The kind that makes the rest of my walls come tumbling down.

After a long moment, we pull apart. “You’ve turned me into a sap, you know that?” I say and kiss the tip of her nose.

“I’m glad,” she says and walks her fingers up my chest. “Because I want to hear you say it again.”

“I love you,” I tell her. Then, I pick her up and spin her around until she squeals.

“Good because I love you, too. So, so much,” she tells me, blue eyes shining.

I kiss her again and hear her stomach growl.

“I’ve been so upset, I haven’t eaten in days,” she admits with a sheepish look.

“You look too thin. C’mon, let’s go get some food into you.”

After Savannah slips into a sundress and sandals, we leave the hotel and wander down the street. We end up finding a quaint, little restaurant a few minutes away and I order almost everything on the menu for her. It’s far too much food, but I don’t care because she needs to eat.

The meal is delicious and, after they clear the numerous dishes away, we sip limoncello and gaze out at the sea as the sun sets. The stunning explosion of reds and oranges makes the sky look like its afire.

Everything is beautiful once again, I think, and look over at my girl.

Now that Savannah is back, my world feels right again.

I reach over and lace my fingers through hers and just savor the warm breeze on my face and the feel of her hand in mine.God, I love this woman.

“Can I ask you something?

I look over at her and feel this warmth spread through me. “You can ask me anything, sweetheart.”

“What did you mean when you said you broke all of your rules for me?”

I tense up a little and don’t want to think about when we were fighting. But, I’m not going to keep things from her anymore. “I used to have three unbreakable rules that I followed. ‘Til you, anyway,” I add.

“Tell me.”

“Are you sure you want to hear? They might remind you of what an idiot I used to be.” When she nods, I take a deep breath and then tell her.

After a moment, she tilts her head as though considering them. “I’m not surprised by one and three. But, you never let a woman take control in bed? Hmm. We may have to work on that one.”

“If I remember correctly,” I say in a low voice, “you sure took control after our little photo shoot.”

Savannah smiles, pulls her hand out of mine and reaches for her glass. After she finishes the limoncello, her hand disappears beneath the table and slides over my upper thigh. Hidden beneath the tablecloth, her hand continues up and I suck in a sharp breath when it covers the front of my zipper.

“I think I’m going to take control more often, Nick. So, I hope that’s okay?” she adds, all innocence.

I grit my jaw and manage a sharp nod.Fuck.When she squeezes, I shove my chair back, drop some money on the table and hurry her toward the exit. Once we’re out the door, Savannah bursts into a fit of giggles

“I hope you know you’re playing with fire right now.”
