Rosalin nodded once. “Frederick told him yesterday.”

“But then Henry has agreed to help you?” Eleanor questioned.

Rosalin shrugged. “I do not know the specifics of the situation. It will be up to you, Eleanor… my dearest friend… my sister, to convince His Grace to continue supporting us.”

“How?” Eleanor asked weakly.

“My husband is currently very ill. Frederick and I plan to stay here for a few days, but if someone should discover we are here, we will flee at once.”

“I see,” Eleanor said slowly, “You can be assured of my secrecy. I will tell no one you are here.”

“There’s more,” Rosalin added, holding up her slim forefinger. “Should anyone find out we are here, or things do not progress as I intended with Lord Clay, Frederick and I will be forced to leave at once.”

“Okay,” Eleanor said, as she didn’t know what else to say. She was unable to follow Rosalin’s line of thinking as it was so extraordinary.

“Frederick and I will require a loan,” Rosalin blurted as though the words had been waiting to jump forth.

“Oh,” Eleanor replied, “I don’t understand. Frederick has plenty of money and I should think you had some of your own as well…”

“We will need to borrow money from you and His Grace,” Rosalin interjected, without allowing Eleanor to finish her sentence. “Frederick does not have access to all the funds that we require, and I won’t be able to touch a penny of my own money, as it is currently entangled with Lord Clay’s. I am relying on you… dearest Eleanor… to be my savior. You must secure the money from your husband immediately. It is the only way Frederick and I will be able to leave this place and find our own happiness.” Rosalin’s eyes widened hopefully, and they searched Eleanor’s. You do want us to be happy, don’t you, Eleanor?”
