“Haven’t even thought about him, that isn’t a good sign,” Morgan said with a pinched face.

“Yeah. That was my thought.”

“Then why are you meeting him?”

“He asked. I thought it would be rude to say no.”

“It would be ruder to give the man some false hope that you two might get back together if that isn’t the case.”

“He doesn’t think that,” I said but a cold shiver went down my back as I thought maybe he did.

“Are you sure? A man only asks a woman to meet him when he’s in town because he wants to sleep with her or he wants something serious with her.”

“I’m not sleeping with him.”

“Does he know that?”

“We did once and it wasn’t that good,” I admitted.

“Then definitely don’t do it again,” Morgan said and laughed.

“Even if he were to come back to the city, which I doubt he is, we didn’t work. We're too different. He’s a nice guy, but he’s not for me.”

“Maybe you need to take the night to tell him that, to close the book on your relationship officially.”

“There was never a real relationship to begin with,” I replied.

“Again, does he know that? I think he might be looking for something. Bash is only in town for a few days. He’s taking one of those nights to see you, that suggests to me he wants something.”

“Possibly. He might want it, but that doesn’t mean he’s getting it. I probably shouldn’t have said yes to meeting him. It was just drinks; I didn’t see the harm. He had a meeting in the city and wanted to see me after. He made it sound all casual.”

“Ah, so that was how he got you. False sense of security. Sneaky,” Morgan said with a nod.

“Whatever. It doesn’t matter. I can have one drink with him, catch up and then politely explain to him it’s been fun, but we never need to do it again.”

Morgan laughed. “Yeah, like you’re going to say that.”

“Okay, so maybe not like that.”

Morgan knew I was not good with confrontation or making anyone uncomfortable. The chances of me being that blunt with Bash or anyone for that matter were slim to nil.

“Though I would love it if you did, if it comes to that. Maybe he just wants to meet you for a friendly drink. Maybe he wants to end things with you too and wants to do it face to face. We might be blowing this whole meeting for drinks out of proportion.”

“You? Over analyze something? That never happens,” I said sarcastically.

“It’s part of my job and I’m damn good at it. If you didn’t want my analysis overly done or otherwise, you never would have come to see me.”

“Possibly. I had some time to kill and thought I would see how you were doing. Are you ready to leave here?”

“Yes. No. But more yes than no.”

“Still feels odd?” I asked.

“I spent four years here. There was a time when I never thought I would leave. I was happy here. I could still be happy here. If -”

“If you hadn’t fallen in love with the CEO of the company. If you didn’t see what you could be on your own and have the support of said man. If you didn’t see that for your career it was wiser to leave while you could. I can understand all of that,”

“Things are definitely different now, but in a very good way,” she said with a smile.
