After stewing, as JD had so elegantly put for two days, I needed to talk to someone, and I realized I really didn’t have anyone that I could. The first person I thought of was Morgan, but I immediately dismissed her as I couldn’t put her in the awkward position of talking to me and Hope about what was going on.

I wanted to talk to my brothers, but I wasn’t sure if they would or wanted to talk to me. It was why I had come to JD. I figured if nothing else I could get a drink and not be in my office alone with my thoughts. It helped that he saw what I needed and didn’t give me too bad of a time about it, and that he called Walker to come talk to me too.

“What are you going to do?” JD asked after a moment.

“I don’t think there isn’t anything I can do,” I admitted.

“Yes, there is. You can go and tell her how you really feel. Explain to her why you wanted to move to a different country with her. You could send her flowers and all things German to show her what she could have if she went there with you,” Walker said.

“Or you could just leave her alone and let her come to you. She’ll figure out what she needs and when she is, she'll talk to you. You jumped the gun with her once, and you crashed and burned, don’t do it again, Going and seeing her again or doing some big romantic gesture will just push her away further,” JD countered.

“Thanks for your help and clearing that up,” I said and shook my head.

“What do you want to do?” JD asked.

“I want to get Hope back. I want to take back what I said. I want us to go back to how we were before,” I said.

“You can’t do that,” Walker said.

“Way to state the obvious, brother,” JD said and glared at Walker.

“I’m just saying you can’t do that. You need to come up with something else. Do you think this was too much too soon for her after graduating and getting herself settled?” Walker asked.

“Possibly. Maybe I do need to give her some space. I’ll send her some flowers that said, “I’m sorry,” and that I’m around whenever she wants to talk.”

“That could work. It shows you’re willing to talk to her, that you haven’t given up on her or the two of you, but you’re not pressuring her. That seems solid,” JD said with a nod.

Walker sighed after he finished off his drink. “It’s just too bad that Dad pushed you two together so soon. It might have worked out differently if he hadn’t.”

“What makes you think that Mac can’t fix this? He will,” JD said.

“What are you talking about, Dad didn’t push us together.” I said and glared at Walker.

He exchanged a look with JD that made me think they knew something that I didn’t. I looked at JD and then back to Walker.

“You better start talking,” I said and glared at him.

“We thought you knew. I mean come on, it was so obvious. We figured you had too,” Walker said.

“And since it resulted in you and Hope getting together, we figured you didn’t mind,” JD added.

“Didn’t mind what?” I asked and sat up in my chair.

“It was obvious, Dad set you up. He had a meeting with Bash before he met you at The East, that was my first clue he was up to something. Sure, he still has some dealings in the business but not meeting some random restaurant owner, even if he is friends with me. Actually, even more so. I would have normally met with Bash, but Dad insisted on doing it himself.

“That would have been odd on its own but then all of a sudden he insisted on going to dinner with you at The East? A place he hardly ever goes and certainly not for his business dinner,” Walker said.

“You think he told Bash about The East so he would take Hope there and I would see them and get, what, jealous and come to her rescue? That’s ridiculous,” I said and shook my head.

Though even as I said it, it was exactly what my father would have done and what had happened. He had practically done the same thing to Walker, and he was just arrogant enough to think he could do it again. He wouldn’t care that Walker had practically disowned him, and he almost lost Morgan. All he would see was that Morgan and Walker were happy and he would want the same thing for me.

Had my father pushed me towards Hope and in turn ruined any chance I had with her? Would things have gone different for us if we had gotten together after she got back from Berlin? Had I pushed things too fast with her simply because I was happy and thought it had been a wonderful coincidence that everything happened when it wasn't the case?

“Think?” Walker asked.

“I’m sorry, Mac. I thought you knew. It seemed pretty obvious,” JD said with a smirk.

“It wasn’t to me,” I said and slammed my drink down.
