“No, he doesn’t,” she whispered, leaning her head against JJ’s broad chest to hide her heated cheeks.

“If this was one of my movies, I would remember the heated blue eyes the moment you started to walk down the stairs and I would mimic it, because your rockstar had this look of pure astonishment as if he was seeing you again for the first time. If that boy isn’t in love with you, I’ll hand over my first Oscar to you.”

That made Andrea laugh as JJ turned her again, the music changing and she sighed, her heart conflicted because no matter how much she denied it, she still had feelings for Declan and while she wasn’t certain if, after all this time, she could label it as simply being in love with him, there was and would always besomethingbetween them...even if she wasn’t sure what.

“What do you want, Andi? What would make you happiest?”

That stumped her because no one had ever asked her what would make her happy. She spent most of her time making sure others were happy and content. She worked long hours doing so and while she dated a little, Andrea had never let herself develop feelings, making sure that as soon as things might look like they could be something, she called it quits.

The music changed, David Gray’sThis year’s loveflooding the room. It was one of her all-time favourite songs and it made her smile, lifting her head from JJ’s chest. “I love this song.”

JJ leaned down and kissed her cheek. “You deserve to be with a man who knows to request songs that you love.”

Andrea narrowed her gaze, wondering what the hell JJ was on about when she heard an achingly familiar rumbled voice say. Can I cut in?”

Stepping back from JJ, aware that there were quite a few eyes on them, Andrea felt her heart race and she tried to remember that she was known for being calm and collected. But this was Declan Walsh who was standing there, asking her to dance with heat in his eyes, and Andrea didn’t know if she could recover if she let him take her in his arms, dancing to one of her favourite songs and then they went back to hating one another when reality set in.

The world seemed to disappear as Declan waited for her response and Andrea knew she would eventually say yes, that the girl who wanted to know what it would be like to be loved by the boy who shattered her heart was stronger of will than the woman who told herself she didn’t need romance or love in her life, that she was content.

This wouldn’t end well for her and as Andrea heard Declan ask one more time, his tone seemed desperate and it occurred to her that they had chosen the perfect name for their band because in the end, the music in her heart would only play a heartache melody and she would be the one destroyed.
