“But you keep fucking doing it!” Andrea screamed at him, almost stopping when she saw the members of the band standing outside watching them, horrified expressions on their faces and Rhys looked like he was ready to murder either her or Declan or possibly both of them.

“You keep trying to rip my heart out and stamp on it. I don’t want them to see us. That’s what you said like I was a dirty secret to be ashamed of. I don’t deserve to just be another notch on your bedpost, Declan Walsh. I don’t deserve that.”

In his defence, Declan looked sick at her words, like he hadn’t even considered she would be upset at his words, but here she was, reverting back to seventeen-year-old Andi who had run away from the boy she had loved and five years later, And she was gonna do the same thing again.

Tears cascaded down her cheeks and she let loose a strangled sob before she bolted, running out the door Rhys held open for her and she didn’t even stop when Rhys called her name. Andrea was out the door and in her car, reversing out of the space at a speed that would make Charlie proud and as she shifted into first gear, her foot on the accelerator, she glanced in her mirror to see if Declan had come after her.

But Andrea mattered so little to him that Declan couldn’t even be bothered to come see if she was okay and he never would. She couldn’t do this every day and still remain whole. Andrea had spent her life sorting out everyone else’s and now, her own was in tatters and all she wanted to do now was get blind drunk and forget that Declan Walsh ever existed.

She had wanted to come back to Cork with Charlie and start this new chapter of their lives but who the hell was she kidding...there was nothing in Cork for her but heartache and sorrow. Maybe she was better off in Manchester ... Charlie had Noah now and didn’t need her as much anymore.

Maybe it was time Andrea Collins took a cold hard look at what she wanted and put the past behind her. Maybe to find any semblance of happiness, she had to forget about what her heart wanted and put Cork in her rear-view mirror.
