I’d given a lot of people my basic explanation of quantum physics before but I had to admit that Jaiden’s reaction had to be my favorite.
When I’d kissed him in the car, it had been tentative. Almost an experiment, to see how I’d react to him. This was different.

It took me a moment to figure out what he was talking about. “I need answers, King Jaiden.”
He groaned. “I’ve never relished hearing my title like I do when it comes from your lips.”
I shoved at him, and he allowed himself to be rolled over so I could straddle him. My core was over his abdomen. I needed all the focus I could get. “Answers first.” I braced my palm on one of his hard pecs. “You said you need to claim me before you go back home. Why?”
He skimmed his fingertips up and down my exposed thighs. The fact that he was delaying answering just made me more nervous. Jaiden wasn’t one to be nervous about anything, so why was he stalling?
“I’m king,” he said, his silver eyes so serious that I didn’t have it in me to point out how obvious that statement was. “I have millions of lives that depend on me. I need to be in control at all times.”
“I’m following so far.”
“The spell that killed most of our women was cast by the Seelie. However we retaliated, it backfired and now almost all fae women are gone. Save for one. A vast majority of the power fueled from those deaths went to her. She’s no longer a fae. She’s something else. Something more.”
