As soon as the booms echoed through the building, I jumped over the bombs.

In hindsight, that was the stupidest reaction, but I wasn’t used to these high-pressure situations. I felt my life was in danger, so I went toward the only weapons I had.

The gunfire kept up and Seran, crazy bastard that he was, threw his head back and laughed. “I told you! The king has returned, and now I’ll send him to his final rest. And you get a front-row seat.”

His joy echoed off the halls and made me want to throw up.

Was he right? Was Jaiden going to put himself in danger for me?

Would he die to get me out?

“Follow me, human. It’s time to put on our show.”

There were two bombs I’d completed, neither one big enough to do a lot of damage. But it would have to be enough.
