“That’s where you’re wrong. I’m a member of the Men of Valor MC. The MC that owns that strip club. One word and my brothers will let you go.”

Bristle gets this weird look on her face. She looks sad, tired, and pissed off all at once. I find that I much prefer the fire from earlier. I never want to see her sad. I never want to be the one tomakeher sad.

“Don’t,” she says, as if the word kills her as it passes through her lips.

I don’t know what to say to that. I don’t want to make her upset but I really don’t want my girl to work as a stripper. Not when I can take care of her.

She must take my silence as acceptance though, because she turns and stalks across the parking lot and into the club.

I trail after her, trying to figure out how to get her to quit without ruining any chance that I have at making her mine.

I can’t lose her.

Not when I’ve only just found her.

ChapterTwo

Bristle

What is wrong with men?

I just landed in Valor, Wyoming a few days ago and I thought that I had finally escaped guys pushing me around. Then this Wild guy pops up.

Man, I am so sick of guys always trying to boss me around.

It’s a shame too, because that man is hot with a capital H.

Hair as black as ebony, those mismatched eyes that I want to spend hours studying. Plus that perfectly toned body. He was my dream guy.

Then he opened his mouth and threatened my livelihood.

I need this job. My savings are dangerously low and if I don’t make some more money soon, I’ll be stranded here, or worse, be forced to hitch hike out of town.

I left my mom’s place in Union, Mississippi a week ago and just started driving west. I had stopped to eat in Valor and just happened to see the ‘Help Wanted’ sign in the window of the strip club across the street.

I had initially thought that the position was for a new stripper but was relieved when I saw that they were looking for a manager.

That I could do.

I had worked as a part-time manager at the drug store down the street from my mom’s house for the last few years. It was my salary that was covering most of the bills and expenses.

My mom is furious that I left and took my wages with me. She’s been calling and texting me about a hundred times a day for the last few days, but I keep sending her to voicemail and erasing her texts.

She started out by trying to apologize for what her boyfriend tried to do. She even offered to kick him out, but I know that wouldn’t last. Within a week, he’d be back in the house, breathing down my neck and trying to rub up against me like always.

When I had heard my mom and him whispering about me a little over a week ago, I began to get nervous. My mom doesn’t have a motherly bone in her body, and any time she seems to be happy, that usually means that I’m about to be screwed over by her.

Then one night, her boyfriend snuck into my room while he thought I was asleep. That was the last straw for me. I had tried to tell my mom about him, tried to get her to see the man he truly was. I was desperate for her to do something to protect me for once in her life, but she had just brushed me off.

I packed up and left the next day before they could carry out whatever sick plan they had in store for me, or worse, give him the opportunity to assault me.

After I didn’t respond to the first few messages, they turned hostile. She called me a spoiled bitch and a whore. I had wanted so badly to point out the fact that I was a virgin, so that last slur didn’t make much sense. I had also been working so hard for everything that I had since as long as I could remember, so that first name didn’t fit either. But I resisted the urge to give her any kind of response.

I’m hoping that they both run out of steam soon, give up, and finally leave me alone.

Though somehow, I don’t think that will ever happen.

I decide that the next best thing is to live in this tiny town where outsiders stand out like a sore thumb and where the local MC doesn’t take too kindly to men trying to hurt or scare young girls.
