I fling myself off the bike a second later and turn to face him.

“I think I’ll be calling an Uber back to the motel.”

“No, you won’t,” he says and I glare at him as he removes my helmet and grabs my hand.

He leads me over to a brick building and my stomach growls when I smell the scent of garlic wafting out of the front door.

“Hungry?” Wild asks, leaning into my side and I nod, not willing to meet his eyes.

We’re seated right away and I slide into the booth, expecting Wild to sit on the other side. Instead, he crowds in next to me, throwing his arm around my shoulders as we get settled.

“You know there’s more room over on that side.”

“I know. Here, what looks good?” He asks, passing me a menu.

I try not to grumble as I take the menu from him and start to look it over. It’s hard to concentrate with Wild pressed up against me, but when he starts to play with the ends of my hair, I think my brain short circuits.

“Can I get you something to drink?” The waitress asks, her eyes locked on Wild.

Jealousy starts to grow inside of me and I find myself leaning into him more as I tell her that I’ll just take a water.

“I’ll have a beer,” Wild says and I rush to correct him.

“Uh, no you won’t. Not if you want to drive me home.”

He looks shocked but he nods. “Alright, make mine a water too.”

The waitress glares at me, and I give her my best southern “fuck you” smile in return. Wild chuckles next to me and I elbow him in the ribs before I go back to studying my menu.

“Where are you from, baby girl?”

“Mississippi.”

“Yeah, and what brought you out to Valor?”

My mind flashes back to the night my mom’s boyfriend snuck into my room and I feel my body tense and turn cold all over. I can feel Wild stiffen next to me, but I don’t look up from the menu.

“I just needed a change of pace. Some new scenery.”

“Bullshit,” Wild whispers and I shiver. “But I’ll let you keep your secret. For now anyway.”

I let out a sigh of relief. I don’t like talking about my past or opening up to people, but there’s something about Wild that makes me feel like letting down all of my walls.

You’re just attracted to him. Don’t let his pretty face suck you in,I remind myself.

The waitress drops off our waters, the same sour expression tainting her pretty face.

“Are you ready to order?” She snaps at me and I nod.

We both order the spaghetti and meatballs with extra garlic bread, and as soon as the waitress walks away, Wild is back to studying me.

He asks me a million questions about myself. Where I went to high school and college, why I studied business, how many kids I want, what my favorite color is. No subject was off limits, and I humored him because every time I told him something about myself, he got this look in his eyes. It was like I was the most fascinating thing that he’d ever come across.

That look was addictive.

I ask him about his time in the military and joining the MC here in Valor but he gives me brief answers before he goes back to grilling me.

By the time he pays the bill and we stand to leave, three hours have passed and I’m starting to get tired.
