She nods and I wonder if that’s a good sign.

“That’s good, because I love you too.”

“You do?” I ask, my fingers clenching into a fist so that I don’t grab her and pull her to me.

“Yeah. More than you’ll ever know. That’s why I was so upset when I found out about all of this,” she says, waving her hand back toward the front door.

“So, you’ll be mine?”

“I already am,” she says with a sexy smile and I grin, reaching for her then.

My lips meet her wet ones and suddenly I don’t care about the downpour happening around us. I’ve got my girl in my arms, her lips on mine, her hands in my hair, and her heart in my hands.

I’m determined not to do anything to jeopardize it again.

Betty

One Year Later…

“I guess maybe the RV would have been a better idea,” I say with a sigh as Hayes and I lay on our backs watching the top of the tent slowly bend toward our faces.

It’s no match for the torrential downpour out there right now and I wonder if we should make a mad dash to his truck before it gets any worse.

Hayes is silently laughing beside me, and I roll over onto my side and prop my chin up onto his chest.

“Sorry that the vacation isn’t going as well as we thought it would.”

“Are you kidding me?” he asks with a grin, his blue eyes twinkling. “It’s perfect.”

I look back up at the ceiling which is hanging so low that I’m surprised the rods haven’t snapped.

“Clearly,” I say, doubt and skepticism dripping off every syllable.

Hayes is still chuckling but he pulls me closer.

“Every day with you is an adventure. My life before you was so boring that all of the days blend together. Now look at us.”

I laugh as he throws one hand out and it bangs off the side of the tent.

“Should we go to the truck?”

“Yes, absolutely.”

I help him gather up the sleeping bag, pillows, and lantern, and then he takes my hand and we sprint, laughing, through the rain and over to the truck. He holds the door open for me, letting me crawl in first and then he’s hurrying in after me.

“I think I saw a hotel a few miles back,” I say as he starts the truck and he nods, already getting ready to back out of the spot.

We’re on our honeymoon. We got married six months ago but then one of my screenplays was picked up so we postponed our honeymoon. Then winter hit harder than we thought it would this year so it got pushed back even more. It’s actually closer to our first wedding anniversary than our wedding day, but neither of us cares.

Hayes was in charge of planning our honeymoon and I had been so excited when he told me that we were going camping. I was a little surprised that he even remembered me mentioning that I wanted to camp and see Yellowstone, but I shouldn’t have been. Hayes remembers everything that I say.

This trip isn’t exactly going as we planned, but I don’t mind. I’m just glad to get to spend some quality time with my husband. We’ve both been so busy the last twelve months.

He started painting again and when we got married, he gave my parents one that they always admired as a wedding gift to them. When I asked why they got a gift, he told me that they had created the most perfect gift for him and he was just trying to repay it in some way.

My parents ended up posting the painting hanging in their house on Instagram and it blew up. Now Hayes is a successful painter with his first art gallery showing right around the corner.
